Check out Decorah Iowa, they are very Nordic they have Nordic fest, Nordic Museum and I bet you should be able to find information about quilts in that area. This is the quilting guild and they may find you patterns or get some from the museum. http://www.neiqg.com/index.htm

Hi,

Being from Norway I should know what you mean, however..... When you talk sweaters it is the traditional snowflake designs etc. But, when it comes to quilting you may find that the nordic design patterns very much resemble the Amish quilts. Much to everyone's surprise (esp Hollywood) the Vikings loved colorful clothes and jewelry. The old Nordic designs are intricate kinds of Celtic patterns and usually include a dragon head or 2 - they were very attached to their Nordic Gods - Odin and Thor to name some as well as some queens Ragnhild and Gyda.

Use strong color and a kind of string quilt would be also acceptable because they needed to use "everything" as no one could afford to waste anything, (until the last 20 yrs anyway)...

There are some Norwegian quilting sites - google quilting or lappteknik Norway and see what happens.

hugs
Glad Grams
