That is a GREAT idea... This niece is graduating from college but I have others coming up in the ranks and will definitely do that!!

I have three daughters with college degrees. One thing they would all have liked is a set of coasters in their college colors. The ones I like are about 4" by 4". I have a set that are folded hexagons also. If this isn't 'spendy' enough you can always include some cash.

Good idea. I think I will use this idea, along with the tote bag suggestions. I am going to order her college fabric online and make the tote bag from that.... And coasters... and maybe a mug rug!!! And yes, I will also be giving her cash... I will put it in the bag!!
Thank you for the ideas.

What about a fat quarter bag to tote laundry? Choose fun modern fabrics! I don't have a pattern or link but at our guild's sew and tell, I have seen the large bags made from fat quarters. Can anyone help out with a pattern?

M'Liss Rae, Hawley has a great FQ bag pattern in her book Fat Quarter Quilts. I have made several. They are quick, easy and large enough for a lot of whatever!

There are some nice patterns for bags. If she is going away to college she would really be able to use a duffel or similar large bag to take her stuff back and forth. Also if she is going to college, school colors are nice in a a bag, tote or laptop cover.

Make her a lap quilt in her college colors.

Crossbody purses are easy..functional..esp when carrying things..frees up your arms and it is a safer way to carry $$. Keep it simple whatever you decide to do. I am inclined to send a check esp. if you really don't know her or have a relationship with her.

Diva wallet would be functional too...btw

Thank you so much for posting the zipper pouch link. Jenny takes the fear that I have out of putting in a zipper!
