Hello. I need help please. I have been asked to make a baby girl quilt by June. The parents are hikers and the outdoor type and would like to incorporate mountains in the crib size quilt. Was thinking about applique a simple mountain scene, as I haven't much exper. in applique, with maybe sunbonnet sue holding balloons. I need help with locating a mountain pattern or a panel that can work for a baby girl. Thank you all!

How about Delectable Mountains quilt pattern. Here's one of many tutorials:

Look for childrens camping fabrics, owl fabrics, pink camo, butterfly, baby animal, garden, dog and/or cat fabrics. Delectable mountains is a cute pattern, not too hard to make, and would be adorable.

My personal favorites for baby quilts are checkerboard and a big chevron. I make them with two fabrics and they are striking and well received. Good luck on your hunt!

you could just do quilting lines to look like mountains. chevron lends itself to that easily. Have fun and good luck.

I love Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Mountain Majasties. You wouldn't have to make it scrappy. Here is the link to the free pattern. http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/...majesties.html

I like "I Spy" quilts. Mom and Dad can make up stories about the things on the fabrics and babies have a way of turning into toddlers very quickly!

Plus, an I Spy patch alternating with a solids patch makes a very fast and easy quilt

There's an I Spy fabric swap going on now that finishes Apr. 15. http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...p-t286739.html. That way, you wouldn't have to buy so many fabrics.

Lots of photos here: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/...os/photostream.

There is some really cute camping/woodsy fabric by Jay-Cyn Designs for Birch organic:

There are other colors and more prints that coordinate, but the link gives a sampling.

PS - I am not associated with Fabricworm but have received fine service when I've ordered in the past.

You can find a number of mountain theamed panels at eQuilter, you might have to search but I saw a couple that might work. If you are thinking sunbonnet sue, check out Seams to be Sew. Right now she is creating Sue's and Sam's for every state. Her craftsy link is below and her web site is http://www.seamstobesew.com/projects/

How about Sue with hiking boots, backpack and walking stick. I like your idea of simple mountains in background and
the previous idea of animals in the picture. Good luck!

Cat, I got the new Quiltmaker magazine yesterday and there are a couple of quilt patterns you may want to check out. The first is Mountain Lil's Quilt http://www.quiltmaker.com/patterns/d...html?idx=26153 (I really like this one!) The other is Forest Floor http://www.quiltmaker.com/patterns/d...html?idx=26156

Here's the main link of the magazine: http://www.quiltmaker.com/issues/Quiltmaker-May-June-17
Looking forward to see what you decide to go with!

Google “Moon Over the Mountain quilts” to see some beautiful quilts made with this block. Definitely a simple applique pattern. Here’s a link to the free Quilters Cache pattern.

I love this Sue idea! It could be one of the blocks among the Moon Over the Mountain blocks.

Here’s a cute one where she’s holding an umbrella which you could change to a walking stick. Couldn’t find one with a backpack, but that’s a really great idea.

At this point you're probably overwhelmed with ideas!

Applique note: I used some fusible web for a baby applique quilt, but I felt it made the quilt stiffer than I would have liked. Next time I would probably just use a temporary bonding spray (505) to hold the pieces down while I machine quilted around them. Or glue, or simply pin them.

Oops forgot a link to Sue with umbrella ...
