Ideas to use this fabric
1 Attachment(s)
I am looking for ideas to use this fabric for.
So far I thought about 1 long wall hanging or maybe six small (one for each city) wall hangings. Sadly the local quilt shop close to home that I bought it from buys fabric by the pound from customers and then in turn sales it chain store quality (Wal Mart, Joann's & Hobby Lobby) for $1.99 per yard, and LQS quality fabrics for $5.00 per yard. Low and behold they had this AWESOME fabric but there was only this small 3/4 yard. It is city skylines and this is now considered a "collectors" fabric because it was printed in 1998 PRIOR to 9/11 happening. The six skylines are (in order): Seattle Chicago Washington D.C. Hollywood New York City (WITH the twin towers) San Francisco |
I like your idea of six separate wallhangings. The fabric is lovely, and I think would have more punch if you separate the individual skylines so your eyes don't just sweep across them. Potential for some embroidery there, as well...

Maybe a wide border with a pattern in the center?

If it is considered "collector" why would you cut it?

I remember that fabric! In its day I mostly saw it used for VW quilts - they were quite the rage down here. Maybe some sort of Americana theme (This land is your land, This land is my land, from California to the.....)

NiceNice fabric. I think wallhangings would be your best bet.

I would only cut one repeat off because I have a friend
who lost 2 brothers, father and 1 aunt in 9/11. She collects things of the towers as HER way to remember the good times and to "honor" her family members who lost their lives. Since I would be cutting that off amount to get the NYC section I may as well use the other 5 city skylines to make something cool to hang on a wall.
