I fell in love with this pattern after seeing it here (i thought) and now I am in a real pickle. the star squares are not the right size (i don't think anyway) It said to trim to 71/2" but the red and white blocks are to be 81/2" and it does NOT line up in columns or rows Can you help

The stars should be the same as the red and white units, 8 1/2 before sewing together. Did you trim the stars already?

It kind of looks like there is an extra blue strip pieced on the top and left of the stars to make them 8 1/2 inches.

I have a feeling that there is a mistake in the directions. Try to email the pattern designer or the publisher to see if their are any corrections. Give me a PM and I will be glad to help vie email. Keep your spirits up, it will evenuallygo together and be soooo.. beautiful. Trish b

Thanks so much I have trimmed the stars to 7 1/2 then added a strip to the left side of each star making it 8 1/2 But now the length is off still looking for the pattern cover and hoping that has the manufacturer on it sigh

How about adding a strip to the TOP of each star to make it 8 1/2 square. Otherwise your star block will be 8 1/2 wide but still 7 1/2 in length.

I think you need a strip on the top also. This makes it a 8 1/2" square to match the red and white ones.

I really like this pattern for a flag wall hanging. i think the others have solved your problem. By adding the strips you gain some separation of the stars also.

I have seen this pattern and it really is real cute. Sorry you are having problems. The others have made the same suggestions that i would give you. Good Luck.

I like the movement of the stripes. I can't help with the problem. I hope you can get it to look like you want it to.

The problem is the star block. When the pattern was printed they skipped a step. The star is NOT centered in the block. It's sitting all the way to the bottom of the block and all the way to the right side of the block. So YES you have to add a strip to the left side of each block, but also to the top of each block. This will make it 81/2 x 81/2. Some times in testing and printing out patterns, little things get missed. But if you've trimmed up your blocks to center your stars and you want it to look the same, you'll need to re-trim and then add the extra. Good luck

Definitely need some coping strips on the stars. That's a really cool flag pattern.
