If the batting instructions say stitch every ten inches and I have one 13 inch spot in each fussy cut block....do I absolutely have to stitch in there? I have stitched in the ditch and it scares me to stitch across the picture (Corvettes). Let me see if I can find the picture of the top...

The instructions are for the bare minimum amount of quilting. One lady at guild brought her quilt to show after washing and not quilted enough....the batt had clumped up in those areas. She had to make slits in the backing & pull out the mess & re-insert batting & quilt enough.

Great looking quilt, BTW

Ohhh, I sure don't want that to happen. Okay...time to just do it then! Thanks.

I would outline stitch around the cars.

Thats a good idea, but I am pretty much a beginner. I don't think I can do that.

I agree with this. You really won't like how it holds up with too little quilting. Like the suggestion of going around the cars.

Love your quilt inspector!! :D:D

If you use a thin thread like So Fine, you'll not notice the stitching in the car blocks. You'll regret it in the long run if you don't have enough quilting. Hang in there - you'll do just fine!

I have combined stitch in the ditch quilting with a tie or buttons in the feature square.

I agree, I heard an expert speaking about this subject, and she said that minimum amount stated on the package is not near enough quilting, usually.

What a cute quilt. You can do it! :) If you have extra fabric & batting you could do a 'test run' to get the hang of outlining the cars. Either way once you get started you'll find it gets easier and is fun to do.

Thanks, I will give this my best shot tomorrow.

I bet you can do it if you put your mind to it! Don't sweat it, what's the worst that can happen? You might stitch into a car a little, but a Pigma pen will fix that for you. It's much more important to not have bunched up batting in the middle than to see a wrong stitch somewhere. Go for it - you can do it!

It is possible to make little "tacks" by stitching a narrow width zigzag stitch several times in one spot. Look for places in the fabric design where a similar color thread tack will not be noticed. It will hold the "sandwich" together and still not be noticed. Match the bobbin thread to the back of the quilt fabric.
