And if that does not work?

Both Retayne fabrics before and Color Catchers in final wash and still had bleeding with some fabrics! Do you think Oxywash might help? Has been washed and dried. Not "pressed" yet.

Before washing:

After:

I will try and let you know! Final image is a mistake

Very pretty. My fabrics don't often bleed, I always wash in cold water Tide and color catchers, at least three. I use them until they start coming apart. Seems the more expensive fabrics bleed more.

Beautiful quilt. I don't see the bleeding, but that could be because of my color challenged eyes!

Tartan 01-15-2018 06:30 PM

Is it just the one square? I would be tempted to hand piece in another square.

quiltingcandy 01-15-2018 06:37 PM

I'm afraid I don't see it either unless it it the one pink piece with the red flowers on it - then it just looks like it is supposed to be that color since it is so evenly colored.
It is a beautiful quilt - your work is wonderful.

Lots of quilters seem to have successful results with Dawn dishwasher detergent.
Beautiful quilt, Kitsie.

The only pink I see is the square with red flowers . If you hadn't said that there was bleeding, I wouldn't have thought anything was wrong. Your whites appear white to me. Don't dry it any more--heat will set it. Try vinegar or Dawn on the pink bleeds.

Kitsie 01-15-2018 09:04 PM

Its the 2nd picture, the white (supposed to be) with the polka dots. Just one other fabric, white with tiny red stars did the same thing. The whites are pink.
But I'll just leave it.

Kitsie 01-15-2018 09:07 PM

Thanks everyone. I will just leave it. You should see on the 2nd picture of the polka dot one close up that the background is pink. The whole quilt is supposed to have only various reds and white and off-white or ecru.

Kitsie 01-15-2018 09:08 PM

Nope, there are other of this polka dot and one with tiny red stars on white. *sigh* But OK, its for a friend.

Kitsie - instructions from a quilter who hand-dyes.

Kitsie, that is so beautiful !!! The only one I see is the polka dot and it would be no biggie for me. I love it!

pocoellie 01-16-2018 07:02 AM

As I understand it, once it's been dried(in dryer) the discoloration is permanent, but I don't see a distinct "bleeding" problem, it's a beautiful quilt.

Sewgood 01-17-2018 05:17 AM

Beautiful red and white quilt. I would leave the blocks also. What REALLY caught my eye was the Dear Jane hanging behind....WOW!

I just treated hundreds of yards of handwoven fabric from the American Textile Museum. The red ran; thankfully the blues were fine. I did one wash with the Retayne to "set" the dye, then a second wash with Synthrapol to remove the excess dye; no drying between the washes. Finally I did a regular wash with color catchers to make sure the bleeding had stopped.

Kitsie, your quilt is beautiful. Like Elsa sang..."Let It Go!" Enjoy that gorgeous work of art. Fabrics will bleed and we try our best. In the photo, I couldn't tell until I read which one it was.

patsan 01-17-2018 10:27 AM

Your quilt is beautiful. I'm sorry it bled for you, but it didn't ruin the quilt!

sharin'Sharon 01-21-2018 06:43 PM

I am surprised by your result using Retayne. I have used that product for years and never have had any bleeding, by following the 20 minute hot water cycle instructions. Sorry it happened but I will continue to prewash my quilt fabrics using Retayne.

Onebyone 01-21-2018 09:18 PM

I will pre wash twice if a fabric is bleeding. After that the cost of washing, products, and time is more then the fabric is worth. I use the bad fabric for projects like potholders, fabric baskets, etc.
