Is it a MUST to go across the bridge to Hancock's of Paducah? Is there anything down there that a quilter (or quilter wannabe) would really want to see/go to?

Tink's Mom 05-15-2010 01:23 PM

go

craftybear 05-15-2010 01:25 PM

have fun and do a google search for cool quilt shops in the areas you will be visiting, I would call first to be sure they are still in business and to find out hours, and driving directions

seamstome 05-15-2010 01:26 PM

Only every piece of fabric currently available.

Crafty1 05-15-2010 01:33 PM

Depending on how far the drive is, I'd go and check it out!

sewjoyce 05-15-2010 01:55 PM

It's worth the trip over the bridge...

CarrieAnne 05-15-2010 01:56 PM

From what I hear, I would sure go!

TanyaMas 05-15-2010 02:00 PM

Go and have fun!!!!

Barb_MO 05-15-2010 02:08 PM

Oh, and be sure to go to the quilt museum while you are there.

Pam 05-15-2010 02:29 PM

I often make day trips to Paducah. The bar be que festival is always fun, and of course the museum is a must. When you go to Hancock's of Paducah, make sure you go early in the day!!! Fair warning, they do and will turn the lights off on you at closing time! LOL, I have heard many say that when it is dark in there it is DARK!. Have a great time, I am planning on heading down there again myself in July.

vickimc 05-15-2010 03:11 PM

go to the AQS museum.. well worth it. great quilts. have fun.

sharon b 05-15-2010 06:08 PM

Go, from what I have heard on the board I don't think you will regret it  Although I am the kind of person who "has" to stop at quilt stores no matter where I am at

littlehud 05-15-2010 06:20 PM

If I was that close nothing would get in my way.

shequilts 05-15-2010 06:40 PM

You won't regret going to Hancocks of Paducah. It's a great store. They have anything you want. It's all sorted by manufacturer. You will find everything that is new. It's fun to see an entire line all together since many smaller shops only select certain ones. GO-GO-GO!

raptureready 05-15-2010 06:50 PM

I was there in April and would go back in a heartbeat if I could. YES, it's worth it. Some people make the mistake of thinking that Hancocks of Paducah and Hancock Fabric are connected---they aren't. Hancocks of Paducah is BIG. They have a large selection of patterns and fabric. Pricing? About like any other LQS. If you're going to go to Paducah anyway, check out the Quilt In A Day store while you're there, they're actually better priced. There's also, I think, a store just about a block or two NE of QIAD that says their fabric is all $3.99 a yard. I wasn't able to go there though so I don't know what it's like. You might also enjoy going a few blocks to the E of QIAD and look at the hand painted flood wall. At the N. end of the flood wall there's a great seafood restaurant. Then just N. of that is the quilt museum. Plan on spending at least a full day in Paducah, you won't be disappointed.

Pam 05-15-2010 07:32 PM

OK, have we convinced you? Are you going? You should!

rexie 05-16-2010 12:12 PM

I was there a couple of weeks ago and most all of the fabric is $8.99 and up a yard.

My older sister was born in Paducah. I was born in Paris, TN right across the state line. I still have relatives in both towns. God, it's beautiful up there. Especially in winter, with all that snow.

We had a nice Hancock store 10 miles away. At the time, there were more "garment-type" fabric and home dec fabrics. The quilting department was developing very well, with even classes being offered. Then one day the store was closed. Done. The 2 Hancocks 30 miles away are not as nice.

By any means, if you are anywhere near Hancock's of Paducah go go go. It can be overwhelming, even if you know what you are looking for, you will probably leave with soooo much more. The people there are so friendly and so accomodating. They have fabric, books, thread, kits etc. Remember they are not connected with hancock fabrics at all. They are privately owned and like I said very friendly. They also ship so if you don't have the space while traveling they will ship your purchases. I am not affiliated with them whatsoever but I do recommend the place to anyone who likes quilting or sewing.
I go whenever we travel that direction. Love the place.

I have never been, but I have friends who have and they all tell me that it is totally worth it. Go across the bridge, you won't regret it.

Lyn4ty 05-17-2010 12:38 PM

If you have ever seen their catalogue you would know it is heaven for quilters looking for fabric. the misconception is that it is part of Hancock Fabrics and that is wrong. This is an entirely different store and it is huge!! Well worth the trip!

Teacup 05-17-2010 03:40 PM

If you've never been there, it is MORE than worth your time to go to the National Quilt Museum. If I had to pick between that and Hancocks, I'd do the museum because you can find fabric lots of places and online, but the museum is special. However, by all means do both if you can!

ggquilter 05-17-2010 03:48 PM

go to http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/ and have a look at what they carry. I was there once when we went to the AQs quilt show and it was a great place to shop. I am in Ohio so I order from the catalogue or on line.

this is not the Hancocks that used to be Minnesota Fabrics.

penski 05-17-2010 03:52 PM

i live in Illinois and my sister goes there all the time and says she loves going!! maybe i need to go with one of these days to see what all the hoop-a-la is about

SandyMac 05-17-2010 04:15 PM

I get to there in the Spring
