or is it easy enough to just figure out? I was going to do something similar (sashing each block) for my first (I spy) quilt, and this almost exactly for our bed. |
You need to figure out what size you pieces are going to be.
If you want a 4 inch x 4inch then you need to have a 4.5 inch pattern. then decided how wide you want your sashing. And the just Go... |
Something like this?
If this is it, I can make a pdf of the templates for this quilt for you :D |

I do have some 5" squares set aside for this - and the rest will be from yardage. Oh, I can't wait until I get to the point where everything makes sense!! |
You would print out the template, one for each of the parts of the quilt, using it to cut your fabric.
The only pieces to be measured and cut would be the borders and sashing. I will put up an example |
Oh - I didn't even see the post with the quilt layout when I did my last post - the I spy one I'd like to sash each individual block to highlight them (plus it won't be a huge quilt - I wanted that one to look like this - http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php...page=&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title - boy that was long!) I've been collecting some special fabric to make a quilt for me - and that is what I was thinking of doing in this pattern (meaning the 4 blocks together in a sash) - I thought it would best show the prints on the fabrics.

This is the template for a 4 1/2 inch finished block.
You would start out with a 5 inch square of fabric 4 1/2 inch block template |
Thanks Amma - I printed out that picture to use for reference!
|
I can do either quilt in EQ, it is an easy process :D
|
I printed off the template too - thanks! One question though - do you lay the paper on top of the fabric to cut? How do you keep from cutting into the paper? Sorry if my questions seem so simple...
And what is EQ? |

And what is EQ? EQ is a quilt program that allows you to make "virtual" quilts. It does a lot of the math for you  I can add blocks onto these, change the size of borders, sashings, etc quickly and easily :D |
EQ sounds amazing!
Tons of thanks - I printed off that second quilt and made notes on it - it's perfect! :-D :-D :-D |

Is the EQ a free program and if so, where would we find it?Or do we need to go to BestBuy or one of those places to buy the CD?
I'm sure learning a lot from all you gals and guys |
EQ is not a free program. I just ordered it for $149 from my local quilt store. So many of the folks on here have it and love using it I have convinced that I want the program too. My LQS also offers classes to learn how to use the program. I will be signing up for those!!!
|
I would not buy a pattern. It's a basic sashed 4-patch. As long as you start with squares that are all the same size and you sew with a relatively even seam allowance, then you can measure your sashing and add it in the same order. It's a great beginner's project. 4-patch is still one of my favorite patterns.

I'm sure learning a lot from all you gals and guys I don't think it is available at BestBuy...usually quilt/sewing shops or you can buy it from their website Electric Quilt Company, I have seen them sold on ebay and other sites too :D:D:D Do a Search here on EQ6 and EQ5 and you will find a lot of information and opinions on both programs :D:D:D |
