For those of you that send your quilts out, what is the average price (INCLUDING shipping, etc) that it costs for like a queen size quilt? I'm sure that there must be a large varity of prices and I am looking for someone who could finally get my tops quilted! Thanks!

ckcowl 06-16-2010 04:36 AM

$75 plus return postage (average)

beachlady 06-16-2010 04:37 AM

I do not know about shipping, but I just took my quilt to be quilted and it cost me $144.00. It is 72x95. She is not using any custom quilting - that is more $. I also bought the batting from her - was $17.00 so that could be subtracted. For me it is worth every penny!!! She is going to use a circular design.

beachlady 06-16-2010 04:38 AM

CKCOWL - where do you send yours???

stitchinwitch 06-16-2010 04:49 AM

Hm - Interesting - it is really frustrating to take the time piecing the top and then when I get to quilting it most of the time I kinda-sorta mess it up.....:-(

Usually local quilt shops have people that will quilt your quilts. Thet even put them together. It is costly though. Probably 300.00 for a queen size. Some shops have long arms they will give you a lesson and then you ren t the time and do your own. Another option, some local senior centers have the machines and they are free but there is a wait list.

Maureen 06-16-2010 04:53 AM

you got a good deal

stitchinwitch 06-16-2010 04:58 AM

Thank you Maureen - we live in the major boonies tho - but....just maybe,,,,,,

It depends on so many things...what part of the country you are in, what type of pattern you choose (panto, custom, semi-custom), how many thread changes, pattern density, whether other services are included (binding, batting, backing, etc), too many variables to give an "average" price. Pricing here starts with a price per square inch for complexity of pattern and then all those other things factor in. I, too, think it's worth it for large quilts.

dgmoby 06-16-2010 05:08 AM

Honestly - it totally depends upon the area of the country (there are many different price points, depending upon what the going rate is in the area) and also the design you choose. Most people charge by the inch, but you will find some that will do an allover meander type quilting pattern for a set price per size.

A local person in your area can work with you and show you many different ways you could quilt a quilt on a budget, and you have the advantage of not loosing the quilt in shipping - and assurance you get what you wanted. This is only my opinion...and experience :) Good luck!

Send a PM to GreenFairy. She does BEAUTIFUL work, maybe she can help you. There are a few here who do quilting for others (Eddie is in Arkansas, perhaps he could help). Just search your topic. Hope you find help.

Wow....I had my 1st quilt go out to a longarm quilter and I was charged ......get this....$30 :)
I'm in a very rural area and she only wants "to make enough money to pay for her machine." She always has dozens of quilts waiting for her attention and I had to wait 4 weeks to get my quilt back. But for $30 compared to the other prices listed, I'll deal with the wait.
The only thing with Edie, she'll only do one pattern across the entire quilt top. If you want more elaborate quilting and switching of patterns, she's not your girl. I had a puzzle pattern quilted on my 1st and I think it came out very nice. She does receive quilts from "everywhere" and has boxes and boxes stacked up in her quilting room.

I have a shop in Arkansas do my quilts. My large king size are $65.00 with free shipping and insurance back to me. She does great work. She is also on ebay.

Check out: http://www.eaglemountainquilting.com/
She is very reasonable and does lovely work. Her website includes a wide range of prices based on the design that you want. Right now, she ships back for free! I've had three of my quilts done there and all were very reasonable and I was delighted with the results.

I second the Eagle Mountain Quilting company. She does a wonderful job. I let her provide the batting and just send my top and backing. I cram a bunch in a flat rate box to save on postage. She's very quick too!

My longarm quilter charges 0.015 per square inch. I also buy the batting from her because she buys it in large rolls and it is cheaper than I can buy it. Luckily she's only a 15 minute drive. So I drop off my quilts and pick them up.

the last time I had a quilt done, I think it cost $165, Australian dollars

it was a big quilt though

I usually just get something all over, utility quilts don't need anything fancy

reminds me, should finish something, my tax refund should cover a new quilt

sew_southern 06-16-2010 03:25 PM

Prices sure are different all over the country. I pay $38+tx for a large lap size, with 2 backing color choices & many design choices at no extra charge. It takes about 3-4 weeks, except for Christmas when that time is doubled. It's a mom & daughter team and their shop stays very busy with 2 long arms going and a very small fabric selection. I do like to hand quilt the ones for my DD's though, they say it makes the quilts more special to them.

Anna O 06-16-2010 03:25 PM

I provide longarm quilting for many that ship in to me. Send me a PM and I'll answer any questions you have.
