If you zig zag your fabric ends before washing do you put the two cut ends together and zig zag. (folding fabric in half)

I don't .. just serge each end separately.

Would it be better to put the ends together?

I also serge each raw edge separately.

I will fold skinny strips and pin their edges together before washing to minimize tangling.

Serging to minimize fraying.

I fold and pin the skinny pieces together so they don't wind around each other and get distorted. (Some people put them in a mesh bag or pillow case before putting them in the washer)

I didn't do anything at first, oh my the fraying (would lose several inches this way). Then I went to zig zagging the ends, better but they still twisted and became so tangled that the wrinkles were enormous, just discovered that serging them helped so much. I haven't folded them in half or tried the mesh bag trick yet, but am considering it on the larger (several yard) sizes as they still twist together.

Definately either serge or zig zag it does make a difference.

Hint: I posted this a while ago use brass safety pins and just fold your fabrics and pin in the salvages & along the cut edge in a few places. Wash away! It will not only keep down on the twisting,wrinkles, But raveling too! 8-)
