If you have a Juki TL98Q please help
 

I have had my machine for 3 years. I have quilted about 14 quilts with it. On my last quilt it broke a needle after that it would not pickup the bobbin thread, so I took it to the shop they fixed it. It sewed fine at the shop. I brought it home put it back on my grace frame with sure stitch regulator, I start to sew and about 30 seconds later the needle thread breaks. I have threaded it about 20 times to make sure it is correct LOL. I have adjusted the tension. I have cleaned and oiled everything. I have checked my thread to make sure it is not bad. Has anyone else had this problem before or can anyone think of anything I might have missed. Any help I would be very grateful. Thank you.

make sure the needle is in perfectly straight. if it's tipped even a tiny bit to the right or left, thread will break. also try a topstitch needle. for FMQ the topstitch has a bigger eye & gives you more manueverability than a regular needle. good luck

I also have one of those machines but haven't had that type of thing happen. Hope you can figure it out.

I would take it back to the shop and see what they say. I have a Juki and it quilts beautifully. Best machine I've had.

I have the Juki TL 98 Q on a Little Gracie II frame. It's a work horse. I bought it used a couple of years ago & have quilted many quilt with this set up. I haven't had this problem, but I would call the place that did the repairs. Maybe they can talk you through the problem or tell you to bring it back to them. Please keep me updated when you find out what is going on, because it might be useful info for me since we have the same machine. Good luck!

I don't have the same machine as you, but I am wondering if there is a bur in the new needle causing the fabric to fray and break. I'd try another new needle and see what happens. I haven't had this happen to me, but I have heard of it. Good luck!

Also look very carefully at the hole in the needle plate. Sometimes when a needle breaks it can wreak havoc there. I take the needle plate off, and if there is any rough spot I use a very small jewelry file (got it at Walmart for a couple of dollars) and gently file the burr off. This has happened to me more than once and this has fixed it.
