illusion quilt modification question
Happy Saturday! I am working on a tshirt quilt for my niece. I wanted to do an illusion quilt because I have never done one before. I am looking at the pattern in the MSQC December Block magazine. This uses 10" charms cut in half to make 5" x 10" block. Then they use 1-1/2" strips to make the sashing and illusion effects
My question is on modifying those sizes. My tshirt block is 16-1/2" square. I think the 1-1/2" will be too narrow. I have a black jelly roll.... do you think using 2-1/2" strips will be too wide? That is 1" wider than the pattern.. but then my block is 11" wider and 6" longer than the pattern. Any thoughts? |
Sounds like a perfect plan!

I would lay out the background fabric, then take your 2.5" strips and fold to the appropriate length, lay them on the background then take a tshirt block and place it on the strips so that only 2" shows. This will give you a look at the final layout without cutting anything.

I think that's a good idea, you would definitely want your strips wider since your block is bigger. Try PaperPrincess idea, and see how it looks first.

2-1/2 sounds perfect!

Thanks for your thoughts. I will do some "eye balling" and get started
