do you think it could be because I spray basted it? does this have anything to do with it?

I have only had that happen with invisible thread.

When I have lots of problems with thread breakage and all the usual checks seem okay I will run a fine monofilament thread along with the problem thread for extra strenght and it always does the trick!

I've had that happen also. I did everything I could think of to solve the problem. Cleaned, changed the needle new bobbin, oiled. The one last thing I did was to put on the previous cone of thread and that did the trick. The cone of thread I was using was defective. It was a quality thread also and it has been replaced by the mfg.

Did you check the discs where the cotton goes behind. Some thread may be caught behind them.Clean out any lint caught there. Also are you using the same type of thread in the top and bobbin. I found if they are not the same the top thread will break.
