I'm assembling the squares for my "Lover's Knot" quilt from an Eleanor Burns pattern. The rows are laid out on the diagonal, and I'm finding that I'm "diagonally challenged"!!!

I have laid out the squares on our king-sized bed (the quilt I'm making is also king-sized). I just can't seem to wrap my mind around looking at things on an angle.

It doesn't help that this quilt has many different partial squares that are used to fill in the corners.

I don't think anyone can help me with my problem, but thanks for letting me vent!!! :x

I'll be sure to post a picture when I get this monster put together!!!

Try standing at a diagonal while you are looking at it...hold the picture of your pattern the same way....and try matching up the blocks....I can be very challenged, myself!!! Then when you think you have it layed out correctly, take a picture or two of it and look at it on your monitor if you can....mistakes usually pop right out of the quilt this way!!! before you get them stitiched in!!!! :wink: :wink: :wink:

Exactly what I was thinking too to do. Also, helps me that I have a flannel design wall and I just smack pieces right up there and they stick and standing at a distance and as I work on a project....really helps too! Espec if you leave it for awhile and then come in to see it...Skeat

Also, a good help is to look at the pic in black and white....then upside down:)For real...:)Skeat

Funny how one "sees" things differently in a photo than "in person."

Taking pictures helps me a lot. I see the quilt top clearly then.

What great tips. I am working on a diagonal quilt for my DD and I'm using these tips.

I have to laugh because this is exactly how I decided on a layout last week, take a picture. What did we do before digital photography and the "instant gratification" of seeing our picture right away? :)

Thanks for the tips! I think it is challenging to work on the diagonal! I did a little one and found the design wall to be invaluable! :lol:
