I think you are being too hard on yourself and this quilt-in-progress....this is a 'sleeping beauty' it will come to life when quilted......go on finish it.......you will not regret it....you can do it, you know:)
|
I think it is beautiful ! I love the colors and the pattern. I am certain you will love it once it is finished, just keep plugging away and you will be happy you did.... !
|
Good for you! I think that if you give it a rest and do something else every so often, you will eventually get this one done and it will be a winner, it will be stunning.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I have 2 laps and a twin ready to quilt. I think I'm going to set up the smaller machine for piecing the SAS and leave the big one set up for quilting. That way I can switch back and forth. I finished cutting out the white for the teal rows so I'll just piece a little, quilt a little, piece a little, quilt a little cheep! cheep! cheep! piece a little more! (From The Music Man for those who think I've completely lost it by now. Maybe I have.)

Your white background will lend itself to amazing quilting stitches in blue or green. You are doing an amazing job. You can do it!
|
You all have me thinking. I had planned to quilt it with white for a tone- on-tone effect, but now I will consider colored thread and being creative in the "negative space". Thanks for all the wonderful encouragement.
|
That quilt is absolutely gorgeous. You have been dealing with it, dealing with emotions over it so you can't see its true beauty. It's AMAZING! I sure hope you finish it up.
|
I think it's beautiful as well. It looks like you are more than half way done. As others have said, work on it just a little at a time with more fun projects in between. It will be done in no time!
|
It's turning out beautiful.
|
I absolutely love what you are doing!!!
|
It is lovely. You may react to the high contrast because you still have so much white background showing on the design wall.
When I have a project that gets on my nerves, I break it into steps and finish one step at a time. It is OK to work on something else in between. Before you know it, whole sets will be done. Hope you keep going as it will be a stunner. |
Sometimes we just have to bite the bullet and keep going. You may not like the effect now, but go ahead and finish. Put it away for a week or two, then bring it out again and realize you made those choices for a reason. Its beautiful
|
I know you are tired with your quilt, but maybe if you put it away for a couple of days and pick up another, perhaps simpler quilt/block to work on. When I get to the stage where I can't stand working on a project, I put it away, do something else, then I'm ready to come back to it. Your quilt is going to be beautiful, I love how you have the left upper lighter corner, going down to the darker right hand corner. I love the multi colored print fabric. I might put the darker color for a 3" border, then a 5" border (or larger) of the multi colored print fabric, or just the darker color. It's going to be beautiful when finished.
|
Stunning quilt to be. So remember -- it's in the flat stage -- it will be fantastic when done. Take a break.

I think its pretty, if you don't like it you can always donate it to a good cause
|
If it's not looking right and not feeling right it would be hard to keep energized about continuing.
I too think it will be stunning when complete. If it were me I would do a little at a time, quit before I got too irritated or I would leave it alone a week- month. I would hate to see you donate it, just because it is going to be gorgeous! |
it's so pretty, please finish it for us to see.
|
As far as your thread choices... keep it white. That pattern expresses itself via the points and the play among the color subtleties of your background and focus fabrics. To quilt in any other color but white, it will ruin that effect. I would finish the top, put it away for awhile, bring it out and decide then a plan for quilting it. Lay it on a bed for awhile un-quilted and you will get your answer as the best way to finish it. Or make lap quilts out of it.

I truly love this quilt. I love the way the colors fade into each other. I believe that it is quite striking. Don't despair. It truly is gorgeous.

If it were mine, I'd just bite the bullet and get it done. It's lovely! |
Tastes change.
If there is a subconscious reason you don't like it, you will never enjoy it. You will feel uncomfortable working on it. Why not post a larger version of the picture you posted here where you can see it? Maybe looking at the picture will grow on you and change your mind about working on it. If it doesn't and you still hate it, it would probably be best to gift it to someone who likes it to finish. You no longer have to feel guilty about it, and the other person is delighted with the top to finish. You can then work on something you do like. That's a plus for 2 people. I've tossed some stuff I really hated and felt better after. I could think and feel creative again. I always felt guilty for not liking it. |
I love your Cheshire cat quote! Diane C

I think it's so pretty. I'm glad that you aren't sending it to the thrift store! I hope you love it when it's finished because I think it's absolutely gorgeous.

I think it's great and really hope you finish it! I really needed to see it--I'm working on a SAS of blues/purples and whites from the table toppers from my DD wedding--hope to get it to them in Sept. and I know what you mean about being so repetitive and tedious--especially when I realized my "circles" were not showing cause I had doubled the "sashings" and it just looked busy. So then I decided to reduce the "sashings", add blocks and cut tons more fabric--now it's ready to finish up the blocks. But have to say that part of my ugg reaction to mine was the sharp contrast between the purples & blues and the white--seeing how awesome your quilt is looking inspires me that mine will turn out too! Keep at it and we'll compare pictures. I do think I'll follow the advice of letting it marinade for a while before I long arm it though--somehow I want to emphasis the "waves" the pattern forms.
|
I absolutely love this. You have done an amazing job. I would walk away and switch to something else. If you can't stand to finish it, I would love to take it off your hands. My colors are olive and purple with some turquoise thrown in. Great job.

What pattern is this?

Love it. We sang that song on a Choral trip down the Danube from Germany to Hungary. What fun. I did the one block-a-day thing on a stack and whack for a while; then one day I did ten. A little at a time gets the job done. And like others have said, the quilting will do a lot for it. (But I love it as it is.) |
I love your quilt!!!! I can see where it would be difficult and time consuming.....but gorgeous!
|
I don't like to give up on anything!!!!!!! You will never know how it would have turned out. You will never know if someone would have loved to have a quilt like that. I don't like things like that hanging over my head. If I don't like it, I can give it away, but never finish it? NEVER!
Finish it. It will be gorgeous and also, think about this -- money. Can you just throw it out? I can't. Even if I could, I couldn't. Someone worked for that money - if not me, my husband, God Rest His Soul. I'd never do that to him. My quilts are too important to me. Edie |
If you decide to finish this, it will be stunning.
|
I think its beautiful!! Don't throw it out as some have suggested.
|
I am late to the party, everyone else has said anything I could possibly say, but it is incredibly gorgeous and I would give my eye-teeth, (if I still had them) to make anything to even begin to compared with this. Don't give it up.

I would finish it, and if you still think it is too white, then possibly over dye it, with a color not too strong. You have put a lot of work into it, and it could just turn out to be your favorite with a little modification
|
Quilting will make this quilt! Quilt it in a pale, variegated thread that goes from green to blues...almost white. The white won't be so bright, and the darks will mute a bit.
If you are really tired of it...you could donate it and the fabrics to me...I'll finish & quilt it..LOL... I really think you should finish this...even as a table runner, wall hanging, etc. I love the colors & think you will also, once you are finished with it.

I am about halfway through a SAS that I have had in the UFO stack for several years. I bought all the material, started one corner (the green blocks) and put it away for when I had "more time." It doesn't have a recipient, just me. I think they are beautiful and wanted to do one. Now I realize they are very repetitive, seriously demanding on accuracy, and require LOTS of pieces! This one is disappointing for 2 reasons, outside of the labor required. It's too white and the theme fabric is overwhelmed by the solid colored diamonds. Wish I'd reversed the fabrics. You can see the edge of the dark teal. There is a purple band between the dark teal and the dark blue. The dark blue is not spatially correct. It's actually the lower right hand corner. I know several of you have made this pattern. Any suggestions or encouragement at this stage?

Would it help you to make all the blocks that are the same, put them in a pile, make another row, pile them. Then when you have what you need, lay it out row by row and sew them together. I made a fracture gem quilt this way and was pleased to see the design as it appeared.
|
This is so incredibly ugly I think you should bag it up and send it to me immediately! That would put you out of your misery and make some of my quilting buddies--the ones who love these colors--so happy.Seriously if you really don' like it and don't think you ever will, find a quilter who love the colors and pass it on. froggyintexas

Since YOU totally don't like YOUR project anymore, do what YOU want. This could include any of the above mentioned options.
Are we have fun yet? |
Don't toss it! You've put so much of yourself in this- I just saw this and fell in love- I'm no technical help but love the colors and the look of it. Put it aside and look at it after the 4th
|
it's going to be gorgeous! but i totally understand! i have started a disappearing hourglass 1 in kingsize for my dd who is getting married july 18. i won't have it done in time, no matter what, but jenny doan didn't say,' here's a faster way to do this block, but it will still take a long time, and kingsize has a lot of blocks!' next quilt will be a bbq or a checker board, maybe the 10 minute block. yes, i really am that kind of nuts! lol
you are going to feel so proud and warm when you are looking at it from under it ! i am a batik freak, and that is just the way i hope to do mine! |
