Do you pick your pattern for your fabric or your fabric for your pattern? I still don't know which one I do.

usually the fabric.
I do both
sometimes i see a pattern i love- then i have to find fabrics for it- sometimes i see fabric i love and have to decide on a pattern to use it for- so either way- both ways- just depends...but i am much more apt to buy fabrics i love- then decide what to do with them- i don't really use many commercial patterns
I usually want to make that pattern. Usually the fabric is the hard part. Last one was scrappy, easy fabric choices.
I just look at all the scraps and figure out what to do with them, then buy some coordinating material for sashing and/or borders. Trying to cut down on the remnants in my storage bins
both, sometimes the pattern comes to me and I find fab in the stash, other times I see fab and look for a pattern that it is perfect for, No help here sorry, just go with your gut.
Both for me- I have been collecting different colors that I want to be theme, like the bubblegum pink one that I am working on now. I collected oranges for a while- Charismah has that one now to do the LAQ.
I have done both.... mostly I find fabric 1st and then what pattern I wanna do with the fabric I have. I get more of my fabrics now from rummage sales and clearance sales.. When I have found a pattern I wanted to do, then I purchased a fabric for that pattern I tend to spend more than I wanted to.. hehehe..
I pick the pattern first, because not all fabrics will work in all patterns. So pattern first, then fabrics keeping in mind who is getting the quilt, where it will be used, and what colors are in the room to be used in.
