I am sooooo very excited. DH just asked me this morning if I would like to convert our small back porch into a sewing room!!! How fast can I say yes! It is enclosed on three sides, so it will just involve adding a wall of windows and a door on the one open 12' side, like a sunroom. It's already wired with a ceiling fixture and two outlets! It's only 8' x 12', but I am thrilled beyond measure! I'd love to have your suggestions as to how I can best maximize this small space! (Did I say I am excited???) :D :D :D :D :D

As with any small space, I say "go vertical" Try to use as much vertical space for storage, etc., as you can. If you can make a surface serve multiple purposes easily, go for it. I have seen pics of people's fabrics wrapped around foam core and stored upright like mini fabric bolts and I think that is a brilliant idea.
Good luck, have fun, and be sure to post photos when it is done! Lucky! |
Lucky Lady.Congrats on the new sewing room.I would love to have one.

HUGE CONGRATS to you
I used bookcases from WM or Big Lots has them too.....You can pile alot of things in them Just remember to cover them with material... you don't want the sun to fade your material.... Have a wonderful time decorating..... |
congrats. looking forward to pics of the final results.

Good for you!! Agree with above - go vertical. Don't forget the "under" as well ... under the cutting table, under the sewing table, under the ironing board (or an ironing "shelf").
Also try to utilize things that can be moved. For example an ironing board that folds up into the side of a shelving unit. Shelving units with slider doors that can double as a design wall. Plan out the things that are larger and necessary first - sewing and cutting table. Then work around those. |
Congrats! It's always nice to have your own area for all your stuff and not have to put it all away everytime you want to eat or have someone over. I have a small bedroom for my sewing/craft room. I am constantly rearranging and changing things up. I use an old very large dining room table for cutting and store many tubs underneath. Just play around and see what works best for you. Enjoy!!

That is about twice the size of mine, I have bookcases for fabric, my machine and my computer in an 8X7 room.

Peg board on the solid wall - its awesome for hanging scissors, rulers, certain notions, patterns, etc. And it's all out where you can find it easily.

Looks like there's a virtual section here on the forum as well.
