HELP! My WONDERFUL hubby is getting a large bonus check and it's going to be almost $10,000 more than we expected. He just emailed me and said that he's decided to use the extra for a new LA and table for me!!! Yippy! Now all I have to do is figure out what machine to get! I've looked at the HQ AVANTE and really like it except that I was outrunning the stitch regulator. I've heard this is common but wonder if as I get better at using it then I won't have that problem. The dealer is local which is a plus. There is a Gammil dealer nearby...PLEASE tell me what you like and don't like about your LA if you have one.

Having upgraded from an HQ16 to an APQS Millennium, I can tell you that you will LOVE the stitch regulators on the commercial machines over the HQ's. The HQ is wonderful, but the big ones are so much nicer.

I personally believe you can learn to use any machine like an expert, and don't necessarily believe you have to try them all out to find the right fit.

I chose APQS for its 8 year warranty, absolutely fantastic tech support, online forum full of wonderful folks always happy to help, and the fact so many of the "super stars" use Millenniums didn't hurt matters either.

I will say that there was a bit more of a learning curve over the HQ, but I couldn't be more happy with my machine. It runs like a dream, is easy to maintain, does not vibrate at all (bad with the HQ I felt) and the stitch regulator just rocks!

It handles any thread I throw at it!

I have a HQ16, and I love it!!! Great machine for a decent price. I got a free table for the machine when I bought too. Check for specials.
You get better with more practice, so you won't outrun the stitch regulator.
I have not had any problems with my machine either. I've had fun learning and playing on it.

I have the HQ Avante - (new this year) and I am still in the learning phase - but so far so good. I really like the dealer and I was very satisfied with the purchase. If I have any questions - the dealer is so easy to work with - so that may be a consideration too.

Well I have only used a gammil and an Innova. I have an innova ( well it is coming on friday...but I work at my LQS and have been using an INnova for a year now) and I think you should read up on them...YOu can use any thread with them ..it embroiders.....they have a patent on an oil-less head....the tensioner and it is an industrial machine....and it is within your budget. I have an A1. Drive all the machines - this is like buying a car. You don't want to end up with a Yugo when you may have a budget for a Lincoln or a Ferrari! YOU are the one who gets to determine which machine is which car, and where your budget lies.

One feature that I would not do without is the ergo lift. LA quilting is very physical. Sometimes, just an inch up or down can make a world of difference on your back. I use different heights for the front of the machine (standing), front of the machine (sitting) and the back of the machine (doing pantos). Also make sure your handles can be adjusted. Again, sometimes just a little tweak can be all the difference you need for ok control and ultimate control.

Shelley is offering you some very wise advice. :wink: We also have an A1. DH runs it. We looked, researched and tried every machine out there at the Houston Inter. Show. The A1 was smoother and lighter and vibrated less than any of the others. We've had it for 3 yrs now & not 1 bit of trouble or disappointment.

Congratulations! What fun. Take your time and research. I have a Gammill (12 years) and have never regretted my purchase. They provide excellent support, even now. There are many sizes to choose from to fit your needs.
