My first FMQ was very slow and relax.

Don't worry too much about getting your stitches a consistent size unless you are going to be judged at a show. As long as you don't leave any "toe catchers" the recipient won't mind. You will get better with practice. Have fun.

sounds to me that you are moving your hands ( or the material) to fast and you are skipping across the material . slow down and practice then gradually work i your speed and timing, you dont have to go fast to do beautiful work

Are you wearing the Dollar store gloves that have the gripper dots on them? I tried with and without. I will never try to do it without again. With them, you have so much more control of the whole process. Try not to move the quilt too quickly. I found when I did that, I was getting HUGE stitches, or no stitches. Don't try to work fast. Slow down and relax. I hope this is helpful.

I used to have the same problem, and I couldn't get my hands to go slow eough, so I just speeded up the needle. know that you are supposed to go slower but it wasn't working for me. might give it a try.

If you have speed control move it faster or slower while practicing til you find the place the stitches are what you want. Then just floor it with your foot and forget your foot control and move your hands. Your machine won't sew any faster since you adjusted the speed control. Some days I sew faster some slower so I set it each time.
