I'm trying to create an apple block and am having a problem with the stem. I'd like to have it down attached to the apple instead of floating above it. (See photos) Any suggestions anyone can make about how I might achieve this?

I don't know how to change the block without making one, but you could applique it on quickly enough.

Make the leaf bigger?

Make the triangles on both side of the leaf part of the stem - use the stem fabric and not the muslin...

Are you sure your dimensions for your apple are correct. It appears to be larger than your square requires. If everything is true to size, might try applique stem.

In stead of having a piece go all the way across the top of your block, continue the split all the way to the top. Sew a background strip to the top of the right side of the apple. Then sew the stem to a white square, and sew that on a diagonal across the top of the apple and white. I have attached a very rough drawing to show you. Debra in Ontario

Suggestion...have some stems tilt a bit. Mover visual intrest depending on what your intention is.

wildyard 09-04-2010 06:03 PM

Hmmmmm, so many ideas... to tilt the stems, I'd have to applique them, or do them 3D like the leaves... hmmmmm...
