I am quilting a sewing machine pad and am pulling my bobbin thread from the bottom thru the top. However, when I get to the end the bobbin thread is on the bottom and NOT the top. Is this how it is supposed to be, or am I doing something wrong.

Nothing wrong, that's how it is until you pull the ending thread to the top as well to knot and bury! :)

You are right on to pull the bobbin up when you start your quilting. Then when you get to the end of you quilting line take after your last stitch take another stitch and leave the needle down, put up the presser foot, pull a rather large loop of top thread just above the needle and put a finger in the loop ... put this loop just behind the needle, put down the presser foot then take another stitch ... put up the presser foot and pull on the loop of thread you still have on your finger and the end of the top thread. Your bobbin thread will pull up to the top.

Remember in order to pull your top thread you need the presser foot up. To take a stitch you need the presser foot down.

Why are you pulling the bobbin thread at all?

Peckish 02-15-2012 12:14 AM

I agree with what AliKat said.

It's a way to make sure that the beginning threads don't get sewn over and knotted into a birds nest.
