I'm making Dresden plate table topper
I don't want to put it on a square block. My question is can I birth this Dresden, by pulling through the center hole? Any suggestion would be greatly appreicated. Thanking you in advance, Michele

Is it the traditional Dresden Plate with the rounded ends? If so, stitch around the edge with right sides together with your backing. Use pinking shears or put clips around the curved edges. Turn it right side out through the hole(make sure you back stitched at both ends of blades when constructing) and work on getting the blade end nice. Press well and appliqué the center circle.

Okay, I will try and see if I can explain. She has a completed Dresden Plate block which looks like a circle of wedges with curved ends. It kind of looks like a flower with the center circle missing.
You lay that plate face down on a solid piece of fabric that is face up. You then stitch around the outside petal shapes of the Dresden Plate. When you have the outside all stitched, you trim the background and clip into the seam allowances at the round ends at intervals so the curves can look nice when you turn the plate right sides out through the hole in the center of the plate. Any clearer? |

Here is a video that shows what Tartan is explaining. The Dresden Plate used has only a flat edge, but she shows others she made with the rounded edges and tells how to do them during the video.
