Not really, but I have been busy un-picking about a billion tiny threads today. Didn't like the way my quilting was going - now time to re-group and try again..that is when my eyes and back recover. hahaha. Ah....the life of a quilter.

dsb38327 05-25-2010 04:42 PM

Sorry. Sometimes it just has to happen.

amma 05-25-2010 04:43 PM

Yep...pickin' but no grinnin'... been there and done that LOL

luv-e 05-25-2010 04:44 PM

Was there TODAY too. hehe

reach for the stars 2 05-25-2010 04:52 PM

Been there, done that and did it. Not a fun way to spend the day.

erstan947 05-25-2010 05:27 PM

The lady that taught me to knit said "if you can't take the stitches out and make it correct, then don't knit". I remember that advice given me 52 years ago every time I unsew while working on a quilt. A good lesson to learn.

JanetM 05-25-2010 05:43 PM

It is a real pain, but in the end you'll be glad you did it. :D

Dagny 05-25-2010 05:43 PM

Oh yeah. I spent at least two hours last night doing the same thing. I had a queen sized quilt fully assembled with borders complete when I realized one row was upside down.

For me, it was more like pickin' and cussin'.

It's always fine in the end though.

sharon b 05-25-2010 06:26 PM

Heres hoping it goes better the second go around  At least you are still grinnin  LOL

littlehud 05-25-2010 06:28 PM

That a place we all have been. No fun but sometimes necessary. sigh.

sahm4605 05-25-2010 06:30 PM

I have been pickin' at one quilt since friday. and I have a new love in my life. A razor knife. It is my new best friend. hehe. Got it today and have taken almost three full squares out with some really "nasty" wandering quilting stitches in them.

renee765 05-25-2010 06:50 PM

There must be something in the air, then. I've been pickin' and trying to grin on current project. I started the quilt as a Turning Twenty patter, absolutely hated it, took it all apart and recut the same pieces and now am putting it together an entirely different way. Seems I can't figure that out either, as I sewed many of the pieces upside down - so here I go again. I WILL finish this quilt!

clem55 05-26-2010 04:20 AM

Bad eyes, dark day, mini-wale cordoroy, and had the dstitch length on 2!! Yeah, I was pickin and cussin!!

Well how bout a little music while you work.

sueisallaboutquilts 05-26-2010 06:21 AM

I spent all day yesterday cleaning my sewing room. At first I was excited, then I started to get overwhelmed, then mad, finally I just told myself " You need to stop for today b/c you are starting to hate everything around you". So believe it or not I did stop- closed the door and had dinner then watched the game but it only went 5 innings and got rained out :( Then I started hating baseball so I went to bed!!!! :D:D:D:D

I need to do that on the quilt that I have on the long arm right now. The quilting is horrible, I'm just not experienced enough to do the work that I WANT to do. I'm definately going to use a razor knife.

Back to simple quilts and quilting patterns, the "good" quilts will have to wait.

fish92241 05-26-2010 03:28 PM

An instructor was teaching us maple leaf paper piecing. She had made a whole quilt. Her husband said she had to do so many unsews, he thought the pattern was "ah, shit".

rofl. that is way too funny. think that we should all do quilts with a bit of red in them when we use the razor to rip. that way when we poke ourselves it will not be too obvious that we bleed on the quilt. hehe

sandpat 05-27-2010 04:59 AM

I can pick...but I never seem to grin while I do it

My grandmother taught me to knit after she took and adult ed class and learned. She passed on the advice "Be a cheerful ripper!" I don't do much knitting anymore but every time I pull the seam ripper out of the drawer I have to smile as I 'hear' grandma telling me, "Be a cheerful ripper, now!"

stillwaters 05-27-2010 08:25 AM

I think we all spend our share of time rippin' and swearin'! Or Pickin' and Grinnin' (if you are a Cheerful Ripper!)
Has anyone heard of using a beard trimmer (electric) to take out stitches???
I don't know where I once saw this - but it just came back to me while reading this thread.

GrammaNan 05-27-2010 08:27 AM

For me it was hours of "pickin' and cryin'" last night. I had to skin the same quilt twice yesterday.

craftybear 05-27-2010 09:24 AM

you will be glad that you took the time to fix it

The first time I read this (quickly, I confess!) I thought you said, "time to re-group and try again, but this time with my eyes open". I thought that sounded wrong and I better re-read it, more slowly.

galvestonangel 05-27-2010 05:18 PM

I have had so much experience, I rip better than I sew.
If I am not pleased with something, I have teo choices: 1. Throw it away (I usually have too much invested) or 2. Rip it out. I try to be a cheerful ripper, it's just part of life.

LOL....there are days you start to hate everyting, because nothing works how it should....best solution...be lazy...read a book....or go out with friends and have some fun...could happen it doesn't work out either...you are left with only one solution go to bed and hope for a better day ...tomorrow ;-)

Rhonda 05-28-2010 09:41 AM

My friend Dorothy says she wants to throw the piece across the room in frustration when she has to rip but then she'd just have to go pick it up off the floor!

It teaches us patience!!! LOL I HATE RIPPING!!!!

lkcantwell 05-28-2010 11:29 AM

I seem to pick a lot these days because I haven't sewn in a number of years. I pick, I frown...I do not grin though.

zz-pd 05-29-2010 08:25 PM

I just did some un-sewing a week ago with my sons jean quilt. I now know I don't like to un-sew. God bless. Penny
