I saw a quilt either on here or just surfing the web and I really liked the pattern. I saw a template at JoAnn's and it says it is "spinning star" but I have looked at tons of spinning star quilts and none of them are it.
It is almost an S shape. Anyone know what pattern this might be?

AlienQuilter 09-23-2010 07:06 PM

is it almost like a bargello?

sharon b 09-23-2010 07:19 PM

Is this it

here is star spin :

scroll down on both pages

Thank you but no, those are not it. What I'm talking about it a thick plastic template. Almost like one section of a pinwheel or a cut off S shape. If I ever find that quilt again, I'll post a picture of it.

trish b 09-23-2010 07:40 PM

Search back thru pictures on this sight. I think I remember that style.

akgranny 09-23-2010 07:45 PM

there's star spin, spinning wheel same block] to google and i just got a great pattern 'crazy eight strip teaser table topper' pattern from quilt bear that maybe what you're looking for. it took me quit a while to find it.

0tis 09-23-2010 07:55 PM

I think I remeber what you are talking about - I think someone made a table runner and the called it something with salsa? I will try to find it.

CindyinNY 09-23-2010 08:07 PM

No, it's not star spin, spinning wheel. I'm not sure about the salsa but I'll search it out.Thank you all.

tweetee 09-23-2010 08:28 PM

I think I saw that kind of pattern on here just this week, it was a table runner someone had made and it was reallly pretty.

JenniePenny 09-23-2010 08:35 PM

Look under RaptureReady. She was the maker/poster.

CindyinNY 09-23-2010 09:15 PM

Thank you all but I don't think I'm explaining what I'm looking for very well. This is a acrylic template that you use to cut four pieces of fabric and make a block with them.

None of the above is anything near what I'm looking for. I tried to find it on JoAnn's site but they didn't have it.

I give up, time to hit the hay. I could have seen it on another site. I really do appreciate your trying to help though.

Sadiemae 09-23-2010 09:21 PM

Could you draw a picture of the template?

lauriejo 09-23-2010 10:02 PM

Is this the template?

I don't know if it is the one she is looking for, but I think I may just have to get it for myself!!

dungeonquilter 09-24-2010 09:53 AM

Thank you so much. I have this template, but no pattern or directions with it. Now I know what to do with it. LOL

Yes!!!! Lauriejo found the correct shape. Thank you!
I wonder why though, when I google it,this particular quilt doesn't come up?????????

The template at JoAnn's doesn't come with a pattern though, just the clear acrylic template. I think it's $10.99 and I'd use a coupon, of course! LOL

Wondering if it's an easy pattern to make, I'm just a beginner.

I just found this picture of it:

carolaug 09-24-2010 10:49 AM

@CindyinNY I was wondering the same if its an easy pattern to quilt. I like to do quick and easy patterns. I have only done two quilts. I have them on my blog Thriftyideastoday.com - I started a week ago and LOVE iT! I am going to start doing a Fabric Rug Mat tonight. I will post it when I finish. I bet my cats are going to love it!

Dragonfly Nana 09-24-2010 10:56 AM

That pattern was in an onlder quilting magazine that I have at home (I am at work right now)
I will look tonight to tell you which one and volume. I am sure I could share it with you too.

AlienQuilter 09-24-2010 11:29 AM

That looks like it would be slow cutting and looks like you need to mark the 1/4" seam allowance. Do you plan on hand piecing?

If you use a rotary cutter, remember, the smaller the cutter the easier it will be to cut those inner curves.

sharon b 09-24-2010 11:31 AM

As for easy for a beginner ... well it is curves or at least that is the way it looks and that would make it a but more difficult , bias and all , but maybe someone else can give you more details

Thanks JenniePennie. CarolB

Sorry CarolB- I didn't check back to this topic until today. Here is a link to where I posted two pictures and the story behind the quilt you see in my avatar photo. Then this thread can stay on topic.

nativetexan 09-24-2010 02:51 PM

they should call that a curved star!

ozecb 09-24-2010 03:55 PM

Fabulous, looks even better JenniePenny. Have you made your one to keep?

A pattern was in the June/July 2008 issue of Quilt Magazine(pic of cover below) It came with a printed template but I think yours would work.

If this will work for you, I would be happy to share the issue or you can order it from their website

costumegirl 09-25-2010 06:00 AM

That's a very pretty quilt! hanks for the reference Dragonfly Nana.
I was thinking that the template that Cindy showed could also be used as applique on a plain block.

CindyinNY 09-25-2010 05:51 PM

Thank you, Dranfly Nana. I would like a copy of this pattern. I went to the site but didn't see where or how to order just that copy of the magazine.
