I started this quilt for my son's girlfriend. As I got it sandwiched, they broke up (they had been together for 2+ years). I think my dog new about the news without being told, as she immediately took the quilt as her own. I would have given it away if she hadn't taken it over.
This quilt is loaded with mistakes, I hate the fabric, and I tortured myself about binding it. On the upside, it is the first quilt I have ever done!!! I love it!
By the way, my son was more worried about telling me they broke up since I had been making the quilt for her, then he was about the break up. He already has a new girlfriend.

Better now than after the wedding! Glad to see it isn't going to waste, will be loved. Linda

Well, just consider it a "learning experience" for both you and your son!!!

barny 06-03-2012 05:41 PM

I've been told dogs are colorblind, but I don't believe it. Your dog knows it is a pretty quilt. why not take it over! LOL

Dina 06-03-2012 06:23 PM

Dog looks happy!

sahm4605 06-03-2012 06:26 PM

hehe. the dog has good taste. lets hope your son has as good a taste in girl friends. that is the nice thing about quilts. you don't know who they are going to until they are done and handed out.

Stitchnripper 06-03-2012 06:26 PM

Your doggie is adorable and from where I sit, your quilt looks great!!!

JudyTheSewer 06-03-2012 07:00 PM

All's well that ends well. Puppy looks happy on that beautiful quilt!

Pickles 06-03-2012 07:27 PM

I think your Quilt looks wonderful and as it is your very first quilt you said I would keep it , and that way years from now you will have your first one to look back upon ..

Lucky doggie! :-)

Quilt looks great!!! Such a cute dog!!!!

Christine- 06-03-2012 07:48 PM

I love the combination of colors you used. It looks great!

nycquilter 06-04-2012 05:54 AM

better a well-loved and loving dog than an ex-gf! I always quilt my bed quilts so I don't worry about dog paws, etc ruining it. They are so welcome to my quilts!

btw, I really like the quilt and the colors.

wolph33 06-04-2012 06:12 AM

great quilt-your doggie will love it

AuntieD 06-04-2012 07:11 AM

Smart dog!! The quilt is also pretty.

Neesie 06-04-2012 07:39 AM

From what I can see of it, it's beautiful! As for "mistakes" . . . I consider them "artistic touches."

That was funny/sweet of your son to be so concerned about you making that quilt and the girl friend becoming an ex-gf. Much better having an ex-gf than an ex-wife.

It looks nice - and the dog is adorable.

QUILTNMO 06-04-2012 11:20 AM

what a neat story so glad you gave it tp your doggie

T-Anne 06-04-2012 11:31 AM

Our dogs might be related! LOL I are sewing along and then the fabric isn't moving...uhm...see where he is laying AGAIN! He snuggles down onto the fabric lying by my feet but only when I am using flannel. He loves flannel. I made him his own flannel quilt so he wouldn't do that, and he loves that quilt, but he still likes any new ones I may be working on. LOL Silly dog!

kountrykreation 06-04-2012 11:45 AM

Everything happens for a reason... and that's one smart puppy! Good looking quilt!!

DawnFurlong 06-04-2012 12:00 PM

Love it! Cute (and smart) dog. :o I also think your quilt is pretty, bright and cheerful!

Latrinka 06-05-2012 05:41 AM

I think it's pretty, and obviously the dog does too!

carolynjo 06-05-2012 06:54 AM

Nice looking quilt and a very perceptive dog!

Taughtby Grandma 06-05-2012 07:10 AM

What a lucky doggie, I like the colors in the quilt.

Jingle 06-05-2012 07:52 AM

She lost out but, looks like your dog won. Very pretty quilt and dog.

MrsM 06-05-2012 07:56 AM

Nice colors and prints. Love your dog!

nstitches4u 06-05-2012 05:01 PM

I agree with your dog---I love it.

joyce888 06-05-2012 05:12 PM

So it was a happy ending after all. You finished your first quilt and the dog loved it, she has good taste.

ShabbyTabby 06-05-2012 05:25 PM

I hesitate to give any of my son's wives heirlooms or special things as I have done this now 4 times and each time, the marriage didn't stick and now all the ex's have china, silverware, jewelery and furniture from our family and I have no idea where it is....I even made quilts for 3 of them...oh well I guess it's just "stuff" and life goes on.

Sew Freak 06-06-2012 03:00 AM

looks nice to me!

MimiBug123 06-06-2012 12:33 PM

I love the quilt, but I think the puppy loves it more. The quilt is really pretty. Dogs have a 6th sense that people don't have. He knows what he likes and wants!!!

Momma_K 06-07-2012 09:14 AM

Looks like the Dog enjoys it more!! Animals are more preceptive than you realize!! Congrate on your first quilt! Looks good!

fallonquilter 06-08-2012 12:58 PM

great job - can't believe it's your first quilt

EvelynJ 06-08-2012 04:46 PM

That is a wonderful quilt. The precious pup knew you made it with love so she wanted to still keep it in "the family" by claiming it as hers. Had you already made your dog her own special quilt? Or did she just get tired of waiting, saw a great opportunity and seized this bright happy quilt as her own? Sounds like she a smart one!!
