What a delightful person is Jenny at sewkindofwonderful. I watched her videos about her patterns and her ruler and am very tempted to buy it. My problem is at $25. I am just not sure I'd ever use it again after this one quilt and on my budget, that is just not wise spending. I am not such a fan of the modern look for myself, unfortunately, and I have to think about the fabric waste from using that curved shape. In some of her patterns that isn't an issue as you use both parts from the cut, just not in this particular one. Hmm.... unless I saved them to do a negative version. LOL

Go get Jenny's ruler and pattern, they're easy and you can make the exact opattern your daughter likes!!

I have to agree with you, Jan. First, that is a beautiful quilt and I just checked out the Urban Quilts blog - also beautiful. My sister has always made it clear that she didn't want a quilt but this summer she saw one I had made on the more modern side. I had actually planned to keep it myself but she wanted it --- so she got it. :D The style and color do make a difference.

I think either size would work. What is easier to do to acquire the finished size you want? Patch size is often what is asthetically pleasing to your eye...for instance, I like small 9 patch blocks (6x6) as opposed to larger ones (12/12)

I'm so happy for you. There is nothing that warms a mother's heart like making something she knows her child will love! The age of the child doesn't matter!

The curve on those pieces is very gentle, so it should not be too hard to do. I would suggest you make a couple practice blocks. You may even want to get a new ruler with that gentle curve to ensure accuracy. But if that's the design she wants, and this is really the first thing she's asked for, I'd try to make it for her, rather than change what she wants to something that's easy to do. Good luck! If you want your "picky" daughter to love the quilt you make her, do the exact pattern and colors she specifies. Otherwise you will be hurt if she doesn't react the way you think she should. By the way, she has every right to HER design and coolor preferences. The design you showed doesn't look that difficult.
