....and you think you are the only person who ever did that? When we make such a booboo it is time to get creative. Either redo the blocks with different fabric and change the layout, make a set of alternate blocks to go with the originals, or make the quilt smaller with just the original blocks. Don't give up. You are just going through a dry spell.

Dreaming............
Don't throw the fabric away! I keep all the pieces that are cut the "wrong" size in different baggies with labels as the cut size. They do come in handy and I have made many quilts with these "mistakes".

Don't quilt until you are moved to do so! I can tell you from experience that it never works to force a quilt.

Can you cut the sewn strips into blocks and do a rail fence

What pattern are you using? I have to agree with most everyone, you can find some way to salvage this quilt.

I found a great solution for what to do with cutting boo-boos. I box them up and send them to board members who make scrappy quilts. They are thrilled, and I don't have to think about my mistakes anymore since they have gone bye-bye. Win-Win.

Why don't you sew you 1 1/4" strips together and use in the middle of the backing or use half of them near the top and the other half near the bottom? I've seen a lot of quilts pieced similar to this on the backing. It makes the back interesting and different.

lots of good wisdom and kindness already expressed in this thread. I think you should extend those to yourself, forgive yourself of this mistake, take a deep breath and begin again. Sending love and hugs!:)

Give up quilting? Nothing is that bad. I can understand why you are upset, I'd be a basket case and believe me I've done things that have made me walk out of the sewing room vowing never to return, that lasts about an hour. If I were you I'd cut the 1 1/2 down to 1 1/4 and sew away. Prism99's idea definitely deserves some thought, this lady is someone I'd like to have as a neighbor. Don't fret, it will work out and you can look back on it and laugh when you look at the beautiful quilt you are going to make.

I have made many a mistake-but can not quit because of them.create something new from the smaller strips-creative opportunity---not a mistake
