I'm in trouble...need Christian Cross pattern

I'm doing a quilt for my DSIL and sent her some irish chain pictures. I inadvertently included a Christian Cross picture and that is what she wants!! I don't have a pattern for that. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks,

reginalovesfabric 03-28-2012 04:59 AM

http://www.google.com/search?q=cross...w=1000&bih=558 This is a google search results. Lots of possibilities:)

Get any picture you want from the internet. Blow it up to the size you want by taking it to Staples or on your own printer. Tape it to a window and trace its image on freezer paper. Iron freezer paper to the front of material you will use. Cut it out leaving 1/4 inch to spare all around. Glue baste with a glue stick (only white)the 1/4 inch of material and turn to the back. Apply like any other appliqué.

Do a search for Charisma here on the board. She has done some beautiful Cross quilts.

Can you post a photo of the Christian Cross picture you sent her?

In The Doghouse Designs has a pattern called Promise Eternal that is a beautifu cross, not to mention quick and easy to make. http://inthedoghousedesigns.com/misc.htm I hope that helps.

I personally like the first one best.

I finally found the picture that was in a post. You can do the squares any size you prefer. I made several with this photo using various sizes.

Here it is. Had a problem :)

Sadiemae 03-28-2012 10:27 AM

You could just take an Irish Chain pattern and adjust it to make the little crosses.

luvstoquilt 03-28-2012 02:29 PM

I wonder if you sent her a picture of "Irish Crosses"...it is shown on page 184 and 185in Leisure Arts "Encyclopedia of Classic Quilt Patterns". I got the book several years ago at Barnes and Noble but am sure it is still around ..probably at a bargain on Amazon. The quilt's finished size is 96"x96" and is a scrap quilt. My mother actually made one and it was really pretty and she said it was not difficult! PM me if you need any more information.

SewExtremeSeams 03-28-2012 02:36 PM

Here is one that is partially paper pieced. Hope this helps. http://quilterscache.com/S/SchoenrockCrossBlock.html

I am working on three, one for my daughter, my Mom and for our home.

So it's an Irish Chain with a 9 patch in the center blocks. Should be easy to figure out.

Michelle Watts had a collection of Christian Crosses. It is on her website. I have seen it done in black [not red] work and applique. Also using your machine's tripple stitch [if you have it.] works really well with this.

Edited: OOPS, Sorry I only just now saw the picture after posting.

it would be useful to see the picture of the one you sent to her that she likes rather than speculate o what she might like.

homebody323 03-29-2012 05:29 AM

I have a pattern in progress for a friend who worked so hard to receive her pastorship. Each block is made to build the cross and the pieces are not hard at all. The borders have applique and if you are interested I will dig it out and send it to you. I'll try to find a picture to post of the pattern. It is just yummy and you reminded me I need to get in gear and finish it. Thanks

There is a photo on post #11.

I think I saw it in an Eleanor Burns book, "Still Stripping after 25 Years. You might check her website.

teddysmom 03-30-2012 03:44 AM

Eleanor Burns has a Christian Cross pattern in her book Egg Money Quilts. Hope this helps.

Celtic Christian Cross

I have been leading a Celtic Applique BOM group for several years and there is an applique block called Christian Cross in a book by Philomena Durcan called Celtic Quilt Designs II - The Children of Lir. If that is the one you are looking for but don't have or can't find the book, please PM me.

dollycathy 03-30-2012 05:35 AM

double irish chain

Any double Irish chain pattern will do just change the colours in the center of the plain block to create the crosses<o:p></o>

pennylynne 03-30-2012 06:06 AM

There is also a new cross pattern out for the twister ruler. The pattern is quite simple but very elegant looking. It is called Easter Cross Pinwheel Twist. Being a twister pattern means it will be a very fast quilt to make. Have fun.

dollycathy 03-30-2012 06:34 AM

Actually im wrong it is a tripple irish chain but the colouring is deceptive

Cathy, I love the EQ one you have a picture of. That is what I was looking for. Otherwise I would have gone with the Eleanor Burns egg money quilts pattern. Thanks for the help!!!

Is the picture something you can blow up and use? I did a cross for my daughter...got it from a stained glass website. The lady had free patterns for stained glass...I asked if I could make it into a quilt...and sent her pics...came out really nice.
Our little dog, Corky (now in doggy heaven) had to check out the quilt...he loved getting his picture taken. This was from 2005
