IMHO best free gift ever!

My DH just surprised me with a new subscription to American Quilters Society and in with the membership card was a free bookmark. But not just any paper bookmark. This one is one of the smartest little inventions I can remember in a long time.

You fold it over the page you want to mark and the back has a magnet that holds the bookmark in place.

I just love this simple ingenuity!

I am one lucky girl.
peace

I got one of those too! Now if I could just remember where I put it...

I bought myself one of those bookmarks last week when DH and I stopped at the Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg, VA. They had so much neat stuff in their gift shop but I had plans for my vacation money. LOL!

That is a wonderful magazine! Bonus on the bookmark.

Love those neat little inventions. My neighbor used to make bookmarks with magnets in them.

At dunster get a piece of metal, you'll probably find it. It'll come right to you!

Ah, but I don't even know which room to look in.

One of my quilt magazines had a pattern on how to make them. All you needed was a fridge magnet (the kind you get with a business card on the front) and a bit of fabric. Congratulations on your nice gift!

And your husband is one lucky man that his wife is over the moon about a bookmark! Most of them have to worry about jewelry or expensive sewing machines! :)

Could someone tell me the difference between American Quilters Society vs. Quilter's Club of America?

Gannyrosie 08-07-2013 02:08 PM

Don't know much about the magazine, but it seems you have a great hubby.

I have one myself and really like how it works. Great husband to get exactly what you want and need.

They are two different publications. AQS is its own magazine, wonderful and showcases quilt shows and new techniques.

QCofA is the on line part of Fons & Porter magazine.

You can search each one and see the difference.

imho, AQS is more geared toward new techniques and education in a more professional way. I don't like to use the word advanced concepts, but it does have a lot of techniques that most quilters will never challenge themselves with. I have learned so much from this magazine, and have always found something to try. I think it is the cream on top of the milk.

I bet its in a book!!

As we speak my little treasure of a book mark is in Varney the Vampire or, The feast of Blood, by James Malcome Rymer.

It is a colossal book comprised of 'penny dreadfuls , published in 1845

Penny Dreadfuls are chapters written and sold in the streets for a penny. Every week there was a new chapter.

There are the precurser to Bram Stoker

You can buy bookmarks in Barnes & Noble that are little magnets that fold over the page. I would be constantly loosing my page if I didn't use those.

sewbeadit 08-12-2013 02:16 AM

I just saw one of those at the store. Isn't that funny. I also thought it was a great idea! Great gift.

I make those magnetic book markers all the time, by recycling greeting cards. I get so many compliments on the gift. I give them for special anniversary's, birthdays, hospital stays and place them in some funeral cards too. I'm also a park greeter in Texas and make the book markers for gift bags. I give them to church for new church members. Great way to reuse the pretty greeting cards. This book mark, marks a last line read, not just the page. You place the book mark in the book sideway, on the part of the page you just finished reading.

I, too, make magnetic bookmarks - usually out of card stock or like Luscious Marilyn does, recycled greeting cards - anything with a stiff paper/card stock. I just delivered over 500 of them to my daughter's elementary school as an incentive for their reading program for the younger kids. They have to read so many books to get prizes. I make mine about the size of a 3 x 5 card, folded in two, then put the sticky coated magnets on the inside and decorate the outside with stickers - geared towards the recipient's age or interest. I get the sheets of the sticky coated magnets at WalMart and cut my own about an inch long.
