Importance of a design wall

I was so concerned with balancing out individual whirligigs, darker colors offset by lighter colors, that a I did not think about middle of quilt. I should have offset background triangles with longer strips in making four squares. All pieces ona a design wall would have been helpful! Know I am not sure what to do, forget it and just use it in family room or make 4 individual wall hangings? I know I am not taking it all apart to correct. Good lesson learned. Next time I make this quilt, I will think it out a little better! Free moda pattern on their website.

Oh I don't know...I see an interesting secondary pattern in the center there, in white. Looks a bit like a Thunderbird to me! That would not be there if you'd added sashing or something.

I like it just how it is. :)

Sashing is a good idea. I thought about sashing before I discovered my mistake, but discarded the idea. May sleep on this one and change it up tomorrow. I do have some strips left over

Can't you just remove the center horizontal seam, keeping the 2 top & 2 bottom blocks together, then just rotate the bottom piece 180. It would make the center symmetric.

Paper Princess that is a good idea but then the quilt is top heavy on color on one side. However, that would probably be easier to live with than this image in the middle! Sashing does not seem to eliminate my problem either. Off to get the seam ripper but that design wall is still needed

Quilt a thunderbird design in the center. Great whirligigs!

I think it looks sort of like a stylized angel!

I LOVE design walls, I actually have 4 of them in my small apt.

Perhaps just light color strips the same as the background to float the whirligigs?? I love them they will be great whatever you choose to do!!!!
