It is time for Santa to bring me a new printer. Most of the photos on fabric seem to require an inkjet printer. Does anybody have experience with these printers? Will a plain old printer work to print photographs on fabric? Feedback is much appreciated. Thanks!

any suggestions for price range for quality printers?

I got an HP at Walmart and it works great. I also found that if I order ink directly from HP I can get double the amount but not double the price as Walmart.

Be sure to get a printer that lets the paper flow thru instead of around the rollers. There is less change of jamming that way. I have a canon that lets you do both but so far only use the back that flows thru the rollers.

I bought a Canon multipurpose (scanner, fax, copier) for about $350.00. I have had no problems with it during the nearly four years I have had it. No paper jams, no other issues. Ink runs anywhere from $6.50 to $ 16.50 per cartridge. I use my printer a lot, and usually buy two sets of ink cartridges per year.

laser printers DO NOT WORK FOR FABRIC PRINTING. INK JET PRINTERS ARE NEEDED. also, according to surveys and trials, the printers who's ink works best (is permenent) are:
the HP inkjet and the Epsom Printers. both of these tied for best results. running a close second is the Brother inkjet...all of the others...had varying results. also, if you plan to print on fabric it is important that you buy the (name-brand, expensive) ink cartridges. the refill kits and refilled (generic) cartridges do NOT work, they rinse right out of the fabric even after heat setting. printing on fabric is not an inexpensive adventure.
