Which Inktense Pencils should I use to color fabric?
 

I found two kinds:

1) colored pencils:
this says "Inktense 24" on the front of the tin:

2) watercolor pencils:

Which do I use with fabric medium or aloa gel on fabric?

It says watercolor on both descriptions. Same product different packaging. Take the cheaper one.

The inktense ones will permanently dye/stain fabric.

I don't think the other ones will.

It seems that Derwent makes a lot of artists' coloring products.

No, they are not the same product. They are both soluble in water, but the Derwent Inktense pencils and the Derwent watercolor pencils are different. The Inktense pencils are formulated differently. The colors are more intense and vibrant than the watercolor pencils. Also, once the areas colored with Inktense pencils are dry, the color will not run when the area is re-wetted.

HOWEVER, dry areas that were colored with watercolor pencil will become soluble again if that area is re-wetted and they will run, just like a watercolor painting will...


You definitely want to get the ones labelled INkTENSE if you want to use them on your quilts. Especially if the quilts will be washed.

Like Rob said, Inktense and use aloe gel or textile medium to set--water will set but it also bleeds when you get it wet.

I use fabric medium and they are not all created equal. The more watery ones tend to bleed the fabric more than the thicker ones
