Very interesting!

It looks like QuiltswithConvicts may still be active on QB, and was wondering if The Inmate Quilting Program is still going in Hobbs New Mexico, and if anyone knows if it has expanded to other states over the years?
CD in Oklahoma |
A few years ago in England at the festival of quilts was a large hand stitched quilt made by as all group of ,men ho were in one prison. Before the quilt was finished one man was to be transferred to a more open prison, he refused to go until the quilt was finished.
This was such a small project yours is great. Keep going they need you. |
I would be interested to know also.

Thank you for sharing that story. Sounds like the program is very rewarding. Finishing a quilt always gives me a great sense of accomplishment. Is there somewhere the quilts can be purchased?

The first time I heard of this program was when I went to the Festival of Quilts two years ago. I was very impressed with the work and so glad the men found an outlet for their energies. I live in Lovington, just north of Hobbs and once again last year I visited the Festival. However, I did not see any quilts made by the prisoners. Is the program still active? Thank you for all that you do.

This was such an interesting story, thanks so much for sharing. It sounds like such a successful program that all prisons should adopt--it keeps the inmates busy, produces a great product and teaches them a valuable skill. Congrats on doing such a unique service!

This story would make a great movie! You should at the very least, write a book!

It is a true fact that "God does not make Junk" Thank you for sharing your story. Thanks for all your work.

That is soooo neat! just thinking of those burly, tattooed guys using a needle, thread, etc.. !
I see your location is 'Texas'. Is the program you speak of in NM? Is there one in Texas? Can fabric be donated or even cut? Yes, they were at one point some woman's baby!!! |
