Have any of you seen (or made) a little, skinny inner border on your quilts that is kind of a raised "flap"? I would like to find a tutorial online but I have no idea what this technique might be called!

I did this only once, dont actually know what its called, but took thin strip of material, folded in half, then just sewed it into my seam between blocks and border. Was very easy to do.

I believe it is called a "flange" or something like that. It's been a while but I did put one in a quilt about 8 years ago. I used 1" wide fabric, pressed it in half to 1/2" and sewed it around the quilt with a 1/4"seam. It left a 1/4" little flange around the edge. I like how it looked

You treat it like piping but without the core or cording in the fabric. You just fold a strip in half, press, then stitchit in .. in the middle of the seam( sandwiched). you can vary the width, but I like the look of a narrow or no greater than 1 1/4 inch cut fabric. You can use length or width of fabric for your strips.

I use it fairly often. It is a great way to add a pop of color or to separate the blocks from the border without actually adding another smaller border.

it has been suggested that when sewing a flange that you measure and sew from the folded edge so it will be consistent in width. There is nothing that catches the eye more than a wobbly flange.
