Inspiration Needed!
Hello there everyone!
I'd like to make a quilt for my little girl's grown up (twin size) bed. Her room is a tropical blue color with pink, yellow, and orange accents and all her furniture is white. I was thinking some sort of more traditional pattern but with the more modern white and bright colors. I really don't know what pattern to choose. I'm only a moderate quilter and not up to curves or paper piecing or anything yet. Any ideas would be welcome and pictures would be especially helpful! Thank you so much. |
A disappearing nine patch would be pretty and easy. A disappearing pinwheel from msqc would also be good.
|
I also like a classic pinwheel. Use the tropical colors with white.
|
I would take a look at modabakeshop.com for lots of patterns that fit your skill level. Right now I'm doing the scrappy Irish chain, using modern fabrics - not hard at all and is looking great. The pattern as written is not the right size, but I believe it would be easy to modify.

You could find the tropical fabric and make her a BQ2 quilt. They are real easy to piece. The bird fabric is a very old Hoffman print I bought on eBay.

I'm not a big fan of disappering 9 patch and the pinwheel pattern looks like a little bit too much bias for me. Here's a picture of her room, don't have the big bed yet, to give you an idea of the colors

A rail fence is a pattern that might work for you. I have one in pink, green, and white....let me see if I can find a picture, in case it might inspire you.... It goes together quickly.

What a fun room! Looking at modern quilts I would suggest nice colourful squares or rectangles sashed & bordered with white. You could add some prairie points in the border if you didn't want it plain. Here's a link to some really neat quilts to choose from. https://www.google.ca/search?q=moder...w=1229&bih=859
This one really looks like fun! http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransso...ilt-along.html |
Maybe give the pinwheel another thought. Why, you ask?! Because I justfinished a double pinwheel using Eleanor Burns' pattern and a jelly roll of bright batiks, and it is SO easy! No bias edges, it's done with strip piecing! And did I mention it is easy? It's kind of magical, actually, how it comes together.
Sorry, I can't post a picture, because it's at my friend's house. She's making the label for it. |

What about "strip" quilt? I'm trying to upload a picture of a modern one I did. Of course, you need to pick colors that coordinate with your daughter's room. (I'm also attaching a picture in case it doesn't upload).

I was thinking that the Trade Winds pattern is a fun and easy quilt to make. It is made with a jelly roll, so you could buy a jelly roll in your daughter's room colors.
Here is one I made. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...n-t149560.html The pattern is available free online. Let me know if you need help finding it. |
http://quiltingtutorials.com/browse-...ch-ball-quilt/ This beach ball quilt is cute. Jenny shows you tips on how to make it the easy way. Not sure if they still have that particular jelly roll but this fabric line is so darn cute and in the right colors https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/browse/3479

Lovely room, you could get away with a very busy quilt as the furnishings and colours are quite simple. How about and eye spy using snowball blocks (very easy) - give her something to do if she is ever bored.

These are 2 options I've come accross. I was thinking aqua, pink, orange, yellow, and purple for the colors.

Both of those are cute!!! Can't wait to know what you decide.

That would be pretty with a very dark blue background that matches her walls. The other colors would be really nice with it! Nice pattern!

I decided to do the Moda Bakeshop Lovely Lattice quilt with the Spring House line from Moda. I can't wait for the fabrics to get here! It might turn out to be a bit more green than I originally intended, but I really like the prints and I think they'll compliment her room still.

Hi Rosie, my suggestion is a "Plus Sign" Quilt. Here is a small one I made to donate. I made them out of 3 1/2" squares. But you could easily change the square size to a larger size. Simple patchwork squares with a pattern.

Dina http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/...7_0011_011.jpg I used just 3 different colors. And, I just looked over to my wicker chair and realized my Dorky (Daschund/Yorky) is cuddled up in this quilt. He just got groomed and it has turned cold. I backed it with flannel. He must have snuggled for warmth. |
Love this aqua and red quilt. I think those are Kaffee Fassett prints. Just stunning.

For brights, this is one of my personal favorites. Just watch for contrast, I don't love the last block in the first row because of contrast, I did love the fabric LOL

If you could find a nice girlie panel and then build it to the correct size you need with blocks or strips. The current rage is the Frozen panel with Elsa and Anna on. I know my 2 year old granddaughter is mesmerized by anything in the Frozen theme. Good luck.

Your fabric is awesome. My suggestion is alternating a four patch block next to a solid. It can be put on point. It can be sashed between blocks
I just put quilt four patch on point in search images: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...uilt&FORM=IGRE |

I love that daisy quilt. I've seen it in several adorable variations. Is it applique or curved seams?
