Inspiration needed
 

Not sure if this is the right place for this and I apologize if it isn't. I need some inspiration and ideas to keep quilting. Family drama has left me wondering if my quilts will simply be thrown away when I die and I wonder "why bother", but quilting is my passion. Do any of you quilt just for yourselves? If you quilt for charities, which ones? Do you worry about where your quilts will end up? Thanks!

First of all I am so sorry you are going through some negative thoughts about quilting. For me, I quilt for the pleasure of it. I usually make quilts as gifts and have considered donating some as well. You could check to see if there is a Project Linus around you. I hear they are always in need of blankets either quilts, crocheted, or knitted. There are some guidelines so be sure to check those out before beginning. I hope you work through your troubles and it is my belief quilting and being creative will help with that. Maybe you should just focus on the process of quilting and why you enjoy it.

There are so many charities that would love to have your quilts. In addition to Linus quilts - do you have a local domestic violence center, VA hospital; some volunteer fire departments, EMTs and police departments keep quilts in their cars to wrap children in. Maybe Habitat for Humanity would let you donate a quilt to a family who is getting one of the habitat homes? Check with some local churches - they may know of some local agencies or families who could really use the quilts. Then, let them go and take joy in knowing you have done a kind deed.

Please keep quilting if it is your passion. I have family members that love my quilts As others said you can donate your works There is always a charity needing quilts. How about a nursing home. As a guild member we always find an organization that is in need. I am sure you can find one that would make your heart sing. Don't quit because of someone else's problems

There is nothing wrong with quilting for yourself. I make gift quilts only when someone asks me for one and cares enough to pick a pattern and fabrics. Otherwise I quilt for myself. I make what makes me happy, and keep challenging myself to try new techniques. Don't let anyone else take away what makes you happy.

Some people are not quilt worthy. Be selective about giving your quilts to family or friends. Some just don't value them regardless. Don't let yourself be hurt by them.

Very sorry you are feeling so bad. I sew only for family members and myself. I feel it relieves alot of stress that I have in my life and I just love the end product. So, keep making quilts if it makes you feel better and it will soothe your mind about worrying about who receives your quilts. Whatever makes you happy continue with that.

I hlep out AnnaQuilts. she does premie quilt. some as small as 12" square. that's a wonderful cause. just a block and a border. This is all some parents have of their little one. Doesn't take long to do either. Shipping is the only thing holding me back from shipping right now.
Tell your husband or dear ones what to do with the quilts when you're done.

People are always asking me who the quilt is for. My reply the dogs. My dogs and cats love and appreciate the quilts I make. More than my relatives who just say thank you and it is never seen again.
i quilt because I enjoy it and I am always looking for a new technique or challenging pattern to stimulate me, and my pleasure.

I have been sewing since 4yrs old, now 72. Never quilted until about 10 years ago, and I have made grandkids and kids quilts as well as friends, gifts for special folks (lady took me on a cruise, she got a quilt!) and Quilts of Valor, our local women's outreach for new mothers, and several hospitals. I JUST made the very first quilt for ME! I think there are lots of people out there that would cherish your creations...fire victims, hospice patients, chemo and radiation patients, assisted iiving residents, children's foster care programs. The list goes on and on. I have enough stash fabric and scraps that I could make 40 more quilts without spending any more on fabric! I bet you do to. Sewing soothes me. Do what you love, make a pile of pretties, and share them as you see fit. Hugs.
