I liked the idea of the Gypsy Sit Upon, but didn't like the price. So I went to the sporting goods store and found this. It is for balance training but it is identical to the Sit Upon. I find that I can sit for hours sewing and not get a back ache or sore shoulders. I've started using it for long trips too. It was only $19.

Hmmmm...... Maybe I should try something like this.

dixiebelle162002 02-18-2011 10:25 AM

Interesting............is it soft or padded?

np3 02-18-2011 10:28 AM

It feels like a flat ball. It is filled with air so you kind of rotate around on it. I used to have to get up and move around because I would get stiff. Now I can move freely while sitting. Feels strange at first, now I use one at my computer and at my sewing machine.

I got mine years ago online from Dynadisc Exertools.

I believe it was originally for physical therapy and balance strenghtening.

I can inflate it to my own level of comfort.

I goes with me on retreats and such.

great idea

moonwork42029 02-18-2011 10:55 AM

at least it's got gripper bumps too so you don't slide off if you wiggle too much

And the other side has longer grippers so it doesn't slide on the chair. Stays where you put it.

Actually, I do sit on it and stretch. Hold my tummy in too, well, try anyway!!

Great idea. I do Balance therapy and those are hard to stand on and not fall to my left, so I think sitting is more appropriate for me. LOL.

Great! The purple quilting ones start at $35 and I've seen them for over $40.

ROFLMBO....I need to be quiet because I'm at the hospital with my Aunt, but i can't help laughing....I can just imaging a large quilting guild sitting on these things doing exercises at their sewing machines...if only you could see what's in my head...rocking to the rythym of the machine...My giggle box has turned upside down and my Granny would swat my leg and say hush up!

Thanks for the idea - I have one for balance training - will now find a better use for it under my fanny for sitting.

Terrific!

I have one for excercise; found it, dusted it of, and now have it on my chair. I think I'll get more use out of it this way.

Practice sitting on different spots. And relax while sitting. My husband holds himself stiff and it doesn't work that way.

Carrie 02-18-2011 01:43 PM

Meant to say off. LOL It is feeling quite comfortable as I'm reading the board. Will be trying it at the sewing machine.

Nancy thank you for posting this, I was looking for one. I posted a thread awhile back, but I don't think anyone understood what I was looking for.
Now, just to find one. I heard they are great for strenghtening the back. Thank you

Check a sporting goods store. We have Big 5, Dicks, Sports Authority.....

Much cheaper than the Gypsy!

Ellie'sNana 02-18-2011 05:32 PM

Thank you! Great find. I'm going to check out Dick's Sporting Goods to see if I might find one also.

roseOfsharon 02-18-2011 05:34 PM

Wow, thanks for the tip! I will have to look for one.

JUNEC 02-18-2011 05:38 PM

I have never heard of a Gypsy Sit Upon - but this looks interesting especially since our family has back problems - what is it called?

Don't recall, but mine is made by Harbinger. It would be in the fitness section. Gypsy Sit Upon is the purple one for quilting. Pricey!

sueisallaboutquilts 02-19-2011 10:33 AM
