insul-brite

I've been quilting for years, but have never had an occasion to use insul-brite. I'd like to make some casserole holders. Do I put the IB facing the outside or inside of the casserole holder when I sandwich it? Or does it matter? TIA! (the shiny side)

I bought a casserole carrier kit. It said the shinier metal side should face the hot item allowing it to reflect the energy back its source.

I never can tell which is the shinier side because they both look the same to me!

Technically there may be some difference, but when I use potholders made with the stuff I just grab them and use them either way and I've never noticed a difference in the sides.

I test it with the iron to see if the heat goes through or not. just lay it on fabric and test. if it isn't right, flip it and test again. that always works for me.

It's been awhile since I used it but you should get the information sheet with it to confirm which way it goes...I think the more metallic looking side goes toward the heat source...you can also check the web site for suggestions.

I agree.

The shiny side with metal goes on the side with the hot pan. That being said, insulbrite isn't really necessary. I just use three layers of cotton batting or old towels.

It doesn't matter. If you think about it, you don't know which side is up on a pot holder or if you do, you don't have time to think about it when you're reaching for something hot. But if you have doubts, Google InsulBrite, get on their Website and get the definitive answer from the people who are suppoed to have the goods on it. froggyintexas

Yep, I checked the website last time I used InsulBrite, and they say it doesn't matter.
