Wouldnt it be fun to have an odometer on your machine so you knew how many miles you have sewn?

raptureready 01-04-2011 05:48 AM

I'd be happy with just a bobbin holder that would take a whole spool or cone.

Japonica 01-04-2011 05:49 AM

Both good points!!!!

bkb 01-04-2011 05:53 AM

how about a machine that would stop you from making a silly mistake such as putting the wrong strip on!

My Diamond lists hours. So if I drive 60 miles an hour and have sewed.......hmmmmm.

ckcowl 01-04-2011 06:12 AM

my viking does have an (odometer) when it goes in for it's annual (service) the guys at the shop tell me how many hours and how many miles my machine has gone for the year  i've circled the earth!

Yep, let me know when you find one!

qwkslver 01-04-2011 06:25 AM

My husband tracks mine by how many bobbins I empty. Men just naturally want to know things like that I guess.

We need to get together! I was thinking the same exact thing not too long ago! Why can't there be an invention where the bobbin feeds off a spool of thread on the outside so you never need to fill a bobbin! That can be our million dollar invention!

just_the_scraps_m'am 01-04-2011 06:36 AM

just be glad you don't have to put GAS in it!

yep, I've been thinking about this for a long time, especially since I got my quilting machine, just about the time I get a good rythm going the bobbin runs out.
I would love to know miles or even hours, that could help in determining price, easier than tracking time1

sueisallaboutquilts 01-04-2011 07:16 AM

I would LOOOVE huge bobbins!!!!!!!!!!!!

amandasgramma 01-04-2011 07:19 AM

I'm with you on both........they can put a man on the moon, but they can't make a machine that holds a spool of thread in the bobbin....go figure....

raptureready 01-04-2011 07:23 AM

No, I don't want a huge bobbin, I just want to be able to slide in a whole spool or cone of thread and go from there. Why rewind it all?

My brother embroidery keeps a record of the number of stitches done in the machine memory, I came across it once when accessing all the buttons on the lcd screen. :D

Oh they probably can, but think of the LOST bobbin sales. lol

featherweight 01-04-2011 07:27 AM

My 4000D tells how many stitches I have embroidered on it. My Se has the hours used on it.

Candace 01-04-2011 07:51 AM

I've sewed over 3 million stitches on my Bernina 830 in the 10 months I've owned it!

What a truly wonderful idea! If not mileage, how about number of hours actually sewing?? Isn't that gauge for many things such as when to change needles, time to get cleaned professionally, etc.?? Better patent your idea quick!!! :!:

Umm, this already exists on newer machines. Mine just told me I passed 3 million and needed to take it in for its yearly service. It also "tells" me what needle and foot are on the machine.

MrsM 01-04-2011 08:40 AM

Great idea!

pennijanine 01-04-2011 08:54 AM

Oh! Me too! Someone needs to invent one!

Have it feed off of a large cone sitting behind the machine, out of the way :D:D:D

The Bobbin???

granky 01-04-2011 12:26 PM

My embroidery machine has a 'stitch counter' and when it went in for repairs the gentleman couldn't believe the machine was still going with the millions of stitches it has. (can't remember how many millions he said, but it was up there)...but it's repaired and now putting more on...

Yes, I know what you mean. Mine 4000D has 9 million some stitches on it. They tell me that isn't too many. Sure sounds like it to me.

Ditto - especially on the longarm!

laurac 01-04-2011 05:33 PM

when i was a teenager my two sister, mother and an aunt all shared the same sewing machine and made all our own clothing, even some coats and bathing suits. we used to take the motor to be replaced and the repairman said he wished we had an odometer. the machine was seldom not running.

sewwhat85 01-04-2011 07:10 PM

i was just thinking about that while walking today wondered if i could sew as far as i walked in a day

Stitchnripper 01-04-2011 07:15 PM

After this evening's experience, how about one that won't sew or would beep if the presser foot isn't down!!!!

gypsyquilter 01-04-2011 07:26 PM

love the bobbin via a thread cone idea. I would want my machine to turn back time to prevent silly mistakes, or better yet, add more hours to the day that could only be spent quilting!

Alice Woodhull 01-05-2011 03:49 AM

I had a Singer one time that filled the bobbin right in place rather than having to take it out to fill. I wish my Janomes had that feature. Someone said that Singer had the patent on that. I will be glad when the patent runs out so all companies could put that feature on their machines.

damaquilts 01-05-2011 04:50 AM

Actually back in the day they did have a machine that the bobbin thread came off a spool.

Just look for National two spool if you are interested in more info

And we don't have it NOW?!? What a blessing it would be. I hate winding bobbins and usually do a ton of them at once in a neutral color. But I still lhate to stop to change them.

Wouldn't that be great ! On the days we log in a bunch of miles, we could eat more chocolate. Isn't that the way it works ?

That's my wish. Why can't there be some sort of bobbin set up where thread feeds directly from a cone, like with a serger, for regular sewing machines? That would be heavenly

ibequilting1 01-05-2011 06:36 AM

My Bernina keeps track of stitches and when they reach a certain count it tells me to oil it, just wish it would tell me when the bobbin is low but my new Janome 11000 will tell me.

Debra Mc 01-05-2011 06:53 AM

My Bl Elleago has a setting that can tell me how many stitches I have sewn. When it was brand new the lady showed me it had 0 stitches so i new it was a new machine & never used. I don't know if it can be reset. Maybe like a car.

Yes that would be very cool!! Maybe I lost some weight running it all those miles !!!
