Invisible thread ?
I welcome all your comments on the use of invisible thread. I am considering
purchasing some from connecting threads for a new project I am planning. Thanks,robin |
I have bought and used the thread from them with no problems. I use it fairly often.

I have had success with invisible thread when I have used a cotton thread in the bobbin. I match the backing color.

The thread works well but a few cautions...low iron as too hot will melt and any donation quilts going to hospitals do not use, the dryers will melt the thread (ask me how I know!)

Make sure you purchase a poly invisible and not nylon. Also avoid a skinny spool as the thread will come off really curly and causes problems

No problems with my old Bernina 1530 but my new Bernina 830 doesn't love invisible thread.

selection of invisible thread is not where you purchase it but the chemical compostion of it. Poly aparantly works better than nylon. So ask that question. Check the Superior web site or the YLI etc and ask their advice about the thread. Also different machines like different threads. There no no cut and dried answer in my opinion.

I only use it on wall hangings.

I have used only Aurifil invisible thread. It is on a very large cone and I have had no trouble with it. I do use cotton thread, to match the backing, in the bobbin. I really appreciated QuiltNama's comment. I have made several quilts for my 103 year old aunt in a nursing home. I don't think I used invisible thread in any of hers. I will certainly be careful not to use it in the next quilt I make for her.
