Invisible Thread
Hi everyone, after spending at least an hour getting registered, I sure hope someone can help me. I am using Superior Mono Poly invisible thread and a black 50 wt Aurifil in the bobbin. It works well, the black shows through on the top. I have adjusted the top tension but it doesn’t help. Any ideas? Thank you.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. The invisible thread is stronger then the Aurifil so it will have more pull. You may need to increase the tension on the bobbin thread. If you can post the make and model of your machine, others may offer more advice.

Take a picture of your settings before adjusting so you can return everything for normal sewing. Make sure the invisible thread is feeding well without stretching as that can pull up the bobbin thread also.

switch to a 60wt thread in your bobbin.
80wt would be better. using the invisible thread in the bobbin would be best. |

I too would go to a 60 wt thread to prevent the pull especially if you have already adjusted the tension to compensate. Sewing a bit slower will help with the pull from the invisible thread. You made a great choice with the Superior Thread.

I just made a queen size quilt for my grandson's wedding and I used mono poly thread in the bobbin with great success. The hardest part was winding the bobbin because it was so find and clear I had a hard time getting it started but once in the bobbin case it worked beautifully.

I use Monopoly in my Bernina 820 for ditch stitching quite often. i always use Superior #100 Microquilter poly thread in the bobbin. It works much smoother than using Monopoly in the bobbin too. Microquilter comes in 30 colors so along with it being very fine and sinking into the fabric, so it blends in pretty good. It is also strong and doesn't break easily, the Bernina likes it.
I leave the bobbin tension as is and set the top about one half or less, a little test sewing will help determine correct setting. This is the best combo I have found. |
