Iron cleaner?
 

I bought a new iron and did not realize it had a plastic cover on the plate. I plugged it in and of course the plastic melted onto the iron. I have gotten some of it off, but the remainder is very stubborn. Any suggestions?

You could try "iron off" by Dritz sold at Joann's but follow the directions carefully and do it outside as it sets off the smoke alarms. LOL

Let it cool completely and then have at it with a Mr. Clean magic eraser!

i have been guilty of using steel wool and sandpaper .....make sure and wipe clean

Take it back. If there weren't "loud"/obvious instructions on the iron to remove the plastic first, it sounds like it should be the manufacturer's problem. Or call or write to them. Anything you do may damage the integrity of the soleplate and they may not refund/replace it for you.

Take a brown paper bag and open it and lay it down on the ironing board. Sprinkle lots of salt on it and then iron over the salt with a warm to hot iron. The plastic should come right of with no damage to the plate of your iron. I also do this when I get glue from steam -a-seam on my iron. Works great.

I came very close to doing exactly what you did. I think the manufactures should use plastic that has a color to it , so its obvious there is a plastic on the sole plate. I use hot iron cleaner on my iron. For really severe , I have used oven cleaner.

I 'm with Jan - if it was not obvious - then they should give me a new one!!

I agree with taking it back. I mean, they put a warning on irons not to iron clothes while you are wearing them, but they can't let you know about the plastic on the plate?!
