iron electric wire

My DH built an ironing table for me. It works great. The only problem is that I have trouble keeping the wire away from what I'm pressing--it always seems to get in the way. I have seen set-ups where there is a high pole that the wire goes through. Are there other solutions that folks are using; any suggestions?

There is a clamp on roller that keeps the cord in the same place. And the pole you describe. Both should be available at most discount stores near the irons and ironing boards.

I use a Polder iron cordholder. Got mine from amazon

It sounds like the plug is on the wrong side of your work causing the wire to cross across what you're ironing. I plug my iron into a serge protector strip that I mounted to the right of my ironing surface so that the wire doesn't cross over what I'm ironing.

Do you have to clamp a weight to the cord so it will drop down again? I have the roller thing, but the weight keeps falling off the cord. Maybe I need to tape the weight onto the cord.
