iron holder for end of ironing board

I used to have an iron holder on the wide end of my ironing board. Wish i'd never given it away. Can't find one now. Anyone know where I can get one. I rearranged my sewing room and had a shelving unit I put the iron on top of. hated that but it worked well enough. now the unit is gone i need something safe to place my hot iron onto. I thought a small tall table but that doesn't seem to be a good idea. I want my old holder back!

The ironing boards at Walmart has the iron holder at the end. I guess you may have to buy a new board. I saw the smaller table top one has the holder, that may fit your board and the whole thing is about $13. I use a silicone iron rest and keep my iron face down when I'm using it. I never prop my iron up on the end. That's an accident to happen.

Quiltwoman44 03-30-2023 03:01 PM

sigh, i've seen that. of course my board is fine and i have a new cover on it too. I just dug in the closet and yep, did really give away the iron rest i had that clipped on the end of the board. bad decision to give it up. so far i'm finding weird things. I've tried hardware stores too but was thinking esty or someplace. Still no luck. i like it to be off the end of my ironing board since there is really so little space to iron on as it is.
I can at least get a rest to fit it. i have it on one but it is square so i only stand it on end, then turn it off.

A quick GOOGLE search didn’t reveal any iron rest like you describe. I remember them. Keep my eyes open at thrift stores.

Quiltwoman44 03-30-2023 03:30 PM

I've used every wording i can think of. they clip on the end of the ironing board and you can store your hot iron on it and still have the full space of the board to iron on. storage for steam iron, etc. i 've tried everything. i can find images but just not product!

Try the Salvation Army stores, used .

Go to A*mazon

Use the search term for Shepherd safe station - one comes up.

Sorry I can’t get a link to post for you.

Quiltwoman44 03-30-2023 04:53 PM

that is ok. i saw that one. it fits on top of the ironing board and takes up space. the older ones would clip or clamp on and the main holder part is off the end of the board. The iron is out of the way then. I did contact Vermont Country store catalog people and they used to have them. of course! they have old time candies and such too. expensive though.
I will look again though. My son thought it might work...

Is this what you were thinking of? My board is at least 20 years old if not more. I might try something like this since my iron is always in the way.

off the end of the ironing board, yes. but this seems to be on the ironing boards, not purchasable separately. sigh.

Dang. I remember those and always like them. I've done several searches and it appears they are all built in the boards and not available separately. I might have to start looking at estate and garage sales and see if I can pick one up.

My ironing board has one of the built-in styles. I have NEVER used it, I hate it. It is designed so it has a large hole in the center, and the hole is slanted, so I think I'm supposed to put the iron face down at a 45 degree angle. But my iron will steam all the water out unless I turn the steam off, and that's the opposite of what I want to do. Such a pain!

Onebyone 03-31-2023 04:40 AM

Put a small toaster oven rack on the holder for the iron to stay horizontal. My holder slides under the board so easy to take off or on. it has been out so long that is seems to be built on but it does slide off with effort.

Wawak has a metal rubber coated iron rest for under $9 that will fit over the slant iron holder and be sturdy.

Is it a Polder iron rest you are looking for?

Snooze2978 03-31-2023 05:25 AM

Seems you can only get it with the newer ironing boards. That's a shame. I still have mine and I'll never give it away now since I can't get another one. It's a life saver when pressing full widths of fabrics and you need the entire board to press on. I added a 2x4 covered plywood over my regular board to give me a more rectangle surface and I love it plus it's the same height as my cutting table so when I'm pressing large lengths of full width fabrics, I just move it near the table to lay the pressed fabric on instead of allowing it to drop behind the ironing board as my kitties think it's for their enjoyment to lay on afterwards plus the kitty hair.

Hope you're able to find one.

Don't know if this is what you are looking for, but I checked on Amazon and found this. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/Iron-Rest-Pad.../dp/B07KXCF4ZW

Polder is probably the closest but i found it is in China. Not buying from them if possible. I figured out where to put my iron for now. it will work. I have a found metal shelving unit that did not have the top shelf. I had saved one longer shelf off the old unit I tossed out and sat it on the metal one. Now it's not attached but it is OK. I put my iron on it and just pulled my ironing board nearer to that and it works fine. For now at least. I am using a bedroom/office area for my sewing room. Not really made for this function but we do the best with what we can get!

peaceandjoy 03-31-2023 07:52 AM

Quiltwoman, I have one that I was sure I needed. It's been used a couple of times, but in the closet for years. I'll send it along to you if you send me a message with your mailing info.

Quiltwoman44 03-31-2023 08:29 AM

yippee! thanks, it's sent.

yes that is neat but uses up space on the ironing board. the one i had clipped on the end and the iron sat there-off the board totally. A lovely fellow quilter offered one she had around the house so i'm good for now-hopefully. it has to be better than having nothing.

Wow! That's awesome, ue. It just goes to show that you really can find anything on eBay. It sometimes takes a bit of time, but you can find it!

Quiltwoman44 04-10-2023 12:01 PM

yea! PeaceandJoy sent me her old iron caddy that clamps onto the end of the ironing board. Now my iron sits snuggly in it and is also out of my ironing space. Happy :)

on sale right now. Love mine!

Wonder why they discontinued selling them? They're such a great addition to your pressing station. I've had mine for a number of years and couldn't work without it and I've even added a 2x4 board over top my regular board to give me more room.

Maybe some company will see this and decide to make them again.

I've been looking for one myself without much luck.
I'm presuming they stopped making them because too many of them loosened or were accidentally pushed off the ironing boards with use, then hot irons fell, causing burns or other problems.

Here's the setup I just did a couple of months ago - it's 22 inches wide and 60 inches long, which is perfect...except for the iron taking up space on one end. I did find a vintage one on Ebay but the clamp isn't strong enough to stay in place and wobbles, which is a danger in the making. So, it sits on top while I looke for another option.
