Iron Recall

I searched and did not see this so hope it hasn't been posted. I was just notified of it this week. If you go to the link it tells you how to check and see if yours is included. I have to call about mine as the numbers have worn off but I have a record of when it was bought.

https://www.steamfast.com/recalls/travelironsIn cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) and Health Canada, Vornado is voluntarily recalling certain dual voltage Steamfast brand Home and Away Steam Irons manufactured between 2008 and March 2017 and Brookstone brand Steam Bug Travel Irons manufactured between 2008 and 2013 because the power cord can become damaged near the cord bushing, which can lead to overheating of the cord, posing fire and burn hazards. In addition, cord damage near the bushing can result in exposed copper wires, posing a shock hazard.

All dual voltage Steamfast Home and Away Steam Irons Models SF-717, SF-720, and SF727, and Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Iron Model 606335 produced between January 2008 and March 2017 are recalled. Units produced after March 2017 are not affected by the recall.

You can find the model number and production date code on label on back of product, as shown in red boxes below.

Thanks for the warning! I used to buy from Brookstone all the time.

The link to submit the info won't work on many devices I finally found it to work on my Chromebook, not on my laptop trying two different browsers. You have to take a picture of the iron showing the cord is cut and with a piece of paper with your name and a code you get once you get the form submitted and the day's date. Then upload the photo.
Many will give up!
The phone wait is over an hour if you want to call. At least that is what people are posting.
The one who did get a rep, said she was given a serial number to use but still had to go to website and do the submitting there.
I think Amazon is refunding without all the hoops if you bought from them. Well I jumped through all the hoops for my $20.
I then ordered this from Amazon. It is a Steamfast brand. It is very light weight, small, and so convenient. Several had one at the last retreat. And it was on sale for $29, Steamfast SF-760 Portable Cordless Steam Iron, With Carrying Case, Non-Stick Sole Plate.

Onebyone -- do you have problems with the iron not keeping its heat long enough? Can you use it as a dry iron, too? Or is it great because it is a one piece at a time steam heat while sewing? Thanks for your recomendation.

It's a dry iron with a steam setting. I doubt I will put water in it. it reheats in about 8 seconds and keeps hot enough to press seams and blocks. I doubt I'd press a big quilt top or a lot of yardage at one time. I got it yesterday and have been using it all day today to check it out. I'm pleased with it. It is very lightweight even when the carrying cover is on it. I bought it mostly for taking to retreat. No cords to mess with other then the base unit and it stays in one place.

I have the Reliable steam generated iron on my ironing table. It is attached to the base by a cord. Instant steam when I want it. No water in the iron. It is not portable.

it was funny that i got an email from Amazon saying a product I bought was recalled. steam iron. i haven't had a steam iron in many, many years! not even sure i had one through them. I guess they did a blanket type warning. Everyone!

mine is good. The problem is with the models that have about a 1/2" rubber connection where the cord comes out, apparent a high stress point that caused breakage, sparks, fire. My cord connection is about 1.5" long.

Be safe and check your Steamfast if you have one.

They are not. Amazon is directing folks to the website posted earlier.
