ironing backing of spray-basted sandwich
 

Anyone else do this? I sandwich my quilts on a bed - so a rather soft surface. Sometimes the back seems a bit rumpled - not puckered or wrinkled - just ... rumpled. The finished project is fine, but when I had a solid light-colored backing - looking more rumpled than usual - I ironed that puppy and it was great. Don't know that I'll do it all the time, but I'm doing placemats right now - small, easy to iron - and am ironing each one. Smooth as glass.

I did a class on Craftsy, and she recommended ironing after spray basting. It has worked for me.

So this is yet another thing that everyone else knows and I stumble on? LOL another one was sewing backing together before you cut the selvedges off. That was life changing. I was working so hard to cut so straight - stumbled on that idea and wow - what a difference!

Never tried this. Sounds like it might work. I will try this one my next small project.

Since using spray to baste I have been ironing front and back again and noticed how it smooths out as well as drying the glue so I can quilt straight away.

I iron both sides of my sandwich and works great.

Interesting, never tried this but may have to!

my only thought is... if you use poly batting, the iron could melt it. make sure your iron is not too hot.

JanTx...thanks for the tip in sewing the backing together before you cut the salvage off. Great tip!!! Also, I used the spray basting for the first time this week and I wish I had known about ironing the front and back again after sandwiched...know better for next time. Thanks for all the great tips on this board....I have learned so much.
