Ironing bias strips
 

Can someone tell me what the acrylic strips that are put inside a bias tube to help in ironing them are called? I have searched the web but must not be using the correct name because I have not found them.

Bias strip bars??????????

Bias bars.

I always burned my fingers on the bias bars and ended up giving them away. If you use those, I recommend purchasing the plastic ones as they are less likely to burn your fingers than the metal ones.

When I want bias strips for applique purposes, I use the Clover bias tape makers. I heavily starch the fabric before cutting bias strips, taper one edge so it easily slips into the bias tape gadjet, then use my iron on the fabric as it comes out of the bias tape maker. Very fast and very easy. There are some Youtube videos that demonstrate how to do this. I have tried other brands of bias tape makers, but the Clover brand are the best ones and they are color-coded for size. in a recent class, the teacher recommended using zip strips, the nylon strips handymen use to hold things together. i had my doubts, but they work great. they are inexpensive and come in many sizes

Nancy can you share more information please, I googled zip strips and paint remover sites came up? Maybe I missed something from your post?

By her description, she might have been referring to Zip ties. Since my techie friend bought me some, I love them but never thought they would hold up to the heat of an iron.

I know that Nancy's Notion has the bias bars. I was looking for a 7/8" wide for doing handles and could not find one that large.

Make your own using the heat resistant Mylar plastic sheets from JAF....cut whatever size you need...punch a hole on one short end, attach bobkin on a string and pull/ iron....
