Ironing Board Cover

I was thinking of putting a wool Army blanket over what I have on now and then cotton fabric to make it look nice. Do you think this would work somewhat like a wool pressing pad? or would this get to smell of too much wool?

that depends on the blanket style.
if it's one of the plain ones it should work fine.
they made some that were thicker and sort of fuzzy.
i don't think those would work as well.

as long as it's kept clean the smell should not be a problem.

Has the blanket been well washed and all the shrinkage is done? A hot iron may cause more shrinkage otherwise.

wool cover

I was going to do the same, and I just ordered a wool blanket to do this. My 30 year old teflon cover just bit the dust. I thought of washing the blanket first and seeing if I could felt it a bit or shrink it a little to make it a little thicker before the cotton cover. Let me know your experience if you go through with it. Someone suggested the army blanket as a cheap way to do this but I don't have a surplus store near me. Reba

I have an olive green army blanket under my ironing board cover. It seems fine.

I did that with my ironing board. A friend gave me a wool blanket that she'd gotten at a thrift store. I washed and dried it to shrink it, cut two layers to fit the board, and made a cover from a pretty floral sheet. It's the best pad/cover combo I've ever had on my board.

This is the board that I use to iron clothes, not for quilting.

I did make a big board with one layer of wool yardage, for quilting. That works well too.

There's no smell with either of them.
