Ironing Help
 

Hi Everyone, So I was going to make a signature quilt for my sisters wedding, I bought fabric and washed and dried it because I read you should when making a signature quilt but now it wont iron we,ll. I am trying to iron it flat but it is still so wrinkly. I tried steam, heat sprinkling water and ironing after and the fabric looks so bad still. Any help would be great thanks.

I sometimes find after my fabric has dried and its still difficult to iron I wash a towel of a similar color and once its wet I toss it in the dryer with my fabric and allow it to steam my fabric and after its been in there for awhile I take it out when the fabric is somewhat damp and then iron it as it this usually works well for me.

I just read somewhere that you are not supposed to wash precut fabric, oops, there is my problem

Did you try starching it? I always starch heavily....works for me.

I thought you werent supposed to starch if you want to write on the fabric

I'm assuming your fabric is 100% cotton. I have found the towel trick really useful. If I'm writing on fabric (like signature blocks) I iron freezer paper to the "wrong" side. It provides a really stable area to write on. Freezer paper can be found at any grocery store. Make sure you always have the iron touch the dull side (the shiny side is waxed and will make a mess on your iron, guess how I know).

simply sprinkle with water and roll up place it in a plastic bag in the fridge over night..the fibers just need to rehydrate and relax....Or simply spritz and allow to sit for a while before ironing it...

@Jaci: Do you remember back in the "good old days" when we used to sprinkle our clothes, roll them, and set them aside the day before we did our weekly ironing? Maybe they weren't such "good old days" after all :D
